What kind of video and sound card should I get for my computer?

I took a picture of my mother board:

I heard that I need to get the right video and sound cards that can fit into those slots. So what kind of video and sounds card should I get? My computer is Intel celeron 2.8 Ghz, 1536mb rams.

Also, just out of curiousity, I know that my video and sound cards should fit into those white slots (see picture). I wonder what's that black slot (see picture) be used for?

Thanks.

The black slot is an AGP slot, and is actually what you should plug the graphics card into. You would plug the sound card into one of the white slots, which are PCI slots.

So for a graphics card, you'll want one that connects via AGP 8X/4X, and you can get any sound card because they all plug into PCI.
Reply:The video card does not fit in the PCI slots (the white ones) it actually goes the the AGP slot (the black one).

You have an AGP slot so only AGP cards fit in it.

Are sound cards worth their price tags ?

$50, $100, $150 for sound cards ???

Are sound cards worth their price tags ?
If you play games or are into watching movies or listening to lots of music on your PC, absolutely yes. One of the best values in sound cards right now is the Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme music, the lowest end X-Fi card. In games you will get a much better depth of feel for the environment as it improves on how many sounds can be run at one time.

If you have a 4.1/5.1 or 7.1 speaker system attached to your computer you need at the very least a Sound Blaster Live!, a little better than that is the Audigy 2 (at $64). But the best one right now you can get without breaking the bank is the X-Fi Xtreme Music at $120.

Reply:it all depends what you do with your PC if you just are gonna listen to mp3's probably not if you are gonna play high end games you might want to look into it

When i try to disable one of the sound cards from the device manager , the pc prompts me to restart.. How to i set both of them up.

How to toggle from one sound card to another ?
Have you tried going through the control panel?

start-%26gt;control panel-%26gt;sounds and audio device properties.

there you can set your midi and other sound outputs to use seperate cards/devices. It isn't really a "toggle" option, but it does give you different out put options. There should be(pending your setup) an option to use the system speaker or headphone or speaker options. hope this helped.

What would be the difference of an integrated sound card and a PCI one?

For surround sound. Usually integrated sound cards have only two ports for speakers and one for the microphone. Is there anything special, extra from buying another sound card? Aside from being able to use 7.1 surround sound.

Using a PCI sound card will not make your computer faster or use less RAM, if that's what you're wondering. If you buy a really good sound card, like some of the Creative Audigy cards for example, you'll get better sound quality and surround sound. Unless you're planning to use it for a Home Theatre PC however, I wouldn't bother.
Reply:An integrated sound card is a sound card that is installed on you motherboard already. A PCI sound card is a sound card u buy for stores and u plug it inside motherboard. IS the same actually unless u want high quality sound
Reply:For one thing, with PCI, you can update in the future. And replace it if it breaks. if the onboard one breaks, the whole motherboard has to be replaced.
Reply:An integrated sound card is just chips built right onto the motherboard, and not really a card at all.

A PCI sound card is just that: an add-on card that fits in a PCI expansion slot.

You can find onboard sound that supports 7.1, it just depends on the motherboard. Usually one of the advantages of a PCI sound card is better noise isolation.

What speaker system should I get for an 8 channel sound card?

The motherboard I am purchasing has integrated sound that supports 8 channels (Realtek ALC850). The problem is that I cannot find a computer speaker system that supports 8 channel sound cards. I do not want a huge sound system, just one of those boxed computer kits. Please provide any SPECIFIC suggestions for an speaker system that supports 8 channel sound.

What speaker system should I get for an 8 channel sound card?
the sound card supports 8 channels but that doesn't mean that you have to use all 8. if you don't want a huge sound system then just get a 5.1 surround sound system that is in your budget...
Reply:like a klipsch 7.1 ....

What is a good sound card to record music from a Guitar?

My brother plays guitar and writes his own songs. For christmas, I would like to get him a sound card that he can plug his guitar into (the same cord he would plug into an amp, or something similar from the amp) and record his music. I know plenty about computer hardware, but don't know a thing about high-end sound cards. Where is a good place to start and what kind of things am I looking for / should I be aware of?

Thanks!

What is a good sound card to record music from a Guitar?
Soundblaster extreme music for about $100. I believe you can get an adapter to plug a guitar into your mic input on the soundcard from places like the source (radio shack). It's just a mic converter (so stereo mics can fit into a regular sound card input jack) and i believe it can double as a sound input converter for other audio equipment. To make sure though, you should check your local computer store and make sure it will work with a guitar.
