Are all sound cards compatible with all motherboards?

I was thinking about upgrading the sound card on my computer but im about building a new computer with a friend in like a year. So my plan right now is to get parts that are compatible with both computers and when im readying to change my MOBO it would be compatible. so right now im looking at sound cards and i was wondering if i buy a sound blaster now and hook it up to my asus, it would also be compatible with a newer MOBO imma get in the future with dual core and stuff.

Are all sound cards compatible with all motherboards?
All current sound cards are PCI, and all current motherboards have PCI. Sound cards should be switching to PCI Express, but that is in the future, and who knows when it will finally happen, so you shouldn't worry, motherboards will have PCI slots for a while. Also, don't mess with onboard sound, it is nowhere near as good as a sound card. I just bought a fancy new ASUS board with 7.1 sound blah blah, I had to buy a sound card, the sound was just terrible.
Reply:yes it should be ...theyre all pci and i doubt the pci slot is going away anytime soon .. however many new motherboards come with some pretty impressive onboard sound these days .. u might not even want it ... 8 channel and digital ins and outs are pretty common now ..
Reply:Not really but that shouldn't be to much of a problem.

When it time to buy the new motherboard just choose one that is compatible.

In reality most motherboards and most video cards are compatible but there are exceptions...........not too hard to work around.
