I have a wonderful sister who deleted a bunch of stuff, most notably my sound card for my (outdated) Windows ME computer.
I need to find another one - preferably a download that doesn't cost me a bundle-that will work with my computer, and how to install it.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Where can I find a sound card for my Windows ME computer? How do I install it?
1)Locate a sound card online via eBay or Google for local retailers
2) Installtion requires a CD-ROM with driver software/applications for the SoundCard, usually they are nothing more than a PCI card, inserted into an open slot
3) I recommend SoundBlaster products- reliable, stable, and relatively cheap- drivers are easy to find
4) Use driverguide.com for free downloads and searchable results on brands
Good luck

How do I fix my computer if my sound card device got erased?
My computer was recently rebooted to factory settings, but some how my sound card device was erased. I wanted to know how I could fix this problem, such as what sites to got to or what to download.
How do I fix my computer if my sound card device got erased?
you will need to reinstall the drivers for your sound card. It may either be a separate card or built in the motherboard. To reinstall the driver you will need to use the driver cd (either motherboard driver cd or the separate cd for the card'd driver)
Reply:if you know what kind of sound card you have go to the website and download the drivers
or try www.download.com and search for drivers
Reply:this happens to me all the time when i format my comp after viruses and such
just go to your computer manufactorers website and end your products name and they will have a whole array of drivers for you
Reply:use this software to scan and update all ur drivers.

What can I do to remove sound card noise?
Here's the deal. I have a stepnote with a realtech sound card. When I record to a virtual studio I get this digital noise along with the recorded data. It sounds like a strong chorus/delay effect, making guitar tracks sound more like a synth. I get the same kind of noise when I record to a tapedeck from the headphone out. I thought that it would be filtered out when the audio tracks were burned to a CD, but it wasn't. I know the noise is digital artifacts. What I don't know is if it is hardware related or software related. I also don't know if it would be a problem with the sound card or the or if it's because I'm only running 256MB RAM, it it turns out to be hardware related. If not enough RAM, would a USB audio interface make any difference? Also, what does a computer use for A/D and D/A conversion? That information seems to be missing from the specs on every computer I've looked at. Please note I've used Audacity and Kristal and got the same results with both.
What can I do to remove sound card noise?
i dont know alot about music recording, but i know alot about computers, i can tell you that having 256mb memory should'nt be a problem unless the recording program you are using require more, my guess is your problem is either caused by not a very good sound card or problem with settings, try to go the master sound settings, and set the microphone volume so its not all the way up, sometimes that helps. also if you want a good sound card for this kind of stuff i recommend creative sound card, i know that they have one's special for this stuff

Reply:Found out it's a lousy sound card. I a USB/Audio interface from Behringer, downloaded the CODEC, problem solved. Report Abuse
Reply:While i cannot answer most of your questions as I am not really familiar with sound recording/synthesizing on computers. I can definitely tell you in my experience that 256mb of ram is an extremely low amount to be running any applications with. the minimum recommended for a computer in this age is 1gb. And even people with older (3 or 4) years usually have at least 512mb of ram. Just go to your electronics store and pick up additional memory. Additional if the RAM is the issue, a USB audio interface would make no difference. The two have nothing to do with each other. If there is not enough ram on your computer, that means the computer does not have enough memory free to run the applications on your computer. Adding another usb device will simply add to your issues (if you don't increase the ram) because it's forcing your computer to have to recognize and process information to and from another device.
Reply:Maybe you have some audio effects set up on your sound card. If you can't figure out how to change it you could try uninstalling and reinstalling the software.

How hard is it to install a sound card on a PC?
My Sound Card went out and I am thinking of replacing it myself. It will be very basic simple sound card. I have worked on my PC very little and don't want to get in over my head, but can't really afford to pay a computer guy 85.00 an hour to install it for me. I am, however, great at following directions. Do you think I could do it myself, or should I leave it to the pros?
How hard is it to install a sound card on a PC?
Nah, it's very easy, and you can do it yourself. Just do the following:
1. Open up your computer case
2. Locate a free PCI slot of your motherboard (it'll look like this http://www.hothardware.com/reviews/image... )
3. Remove the slot cover on your case that corresponds to the slot your installing the card in (http://img133.imageshack.us/img133/7179/... )
(Note: If you're removing a existing sound card, just replace the old one with the new one, and skip steps 2 and 3)
4. Take the new sound card, and push it firmly but gently into the slot until it snaps into place. Hook any internal cables that were attached to the old card to it.
5. Secure the card to the case with a screw if need be (not all cases require that you do this)
6. Close your case
7. Start up your computer, and install the driver for the card off of the CD that came with it
And that's it! Enjoy your new sound card. :)

Reply:If you can operate a screw driver and are able to use your hands, you can do it yourself. I have had my 10 year old build computers from start to finish with very little assistance. Simply purchase the correct card, mostly PCI type and open case and install in a PCI slot and hook up your CD (sound) into the new card. With your Motherboard manual in hand, turn on your computer and access the Bios and turn of the on board sound if it did not have a sound card installed. Once it boots up for the first time it will auto detect the new card and you should install the drivers (new card disks).
Reply:pop it in and and install drivers, no problem.
Reply:Computers now-a-days are pretty easy.
You could do it yourself in less than 20 min's.
Just buy the one you want, turn off the computer, unplug it, remove the cover, find the old sound card.
Remove the wire attached to it.
Unscrew it, pull it straight out.
Replace with the new one. If you look at the slots on the card and the motherboard, you'll see where it goes.
Attach the wire to the new card.
Tighten the screw back.
Plug in the computer
Start the computer up and it should say 'new hardware found"
Please insert disk "the one that came with the card"
Follow the directions and your up and running again.
Once everything works put back the cover and tighten all screws.
Reply:Buy sound card, uninstall old sound drivers, place sound card in the computer slot, install new sound card drivers. There you go.
Reply:If you can locate the sound card inside of your computer, then it should be a piece of cake. Locate the old card, take it out (disable it if it is onboard) Put in the new card in the same slot or another slot, power up your computer and insert the disk that came with the card to install sound drivers. Your computer should tell you that installation is successful and you are all set!
Reply:Go to device manager, uninstall the sound card. Shutdown the computer.
Open the computer, you can see the old sound card by the slots for mic, speakers and audio in jacks.
Remove the screw that fixes it, remove the sound card and plug in the new sound card. Fix the screw, close the computer.
Restart the computer. The sound card should be detected and installed.
If the sound card is not detected. Put the CD that came with the sound card, autorun should start and install the sound card. Otherwise install it through device manager.
Good luck.

When I install a PCMCIA sound card in a laptop, do I have to disable the existing sound card first?
Will Windows XP detect the new sound card, and disable the existing sound card automatically?
When I install a PCMCIA sound card in a laptop, do I have to disable the existing sound card first?
No, don't worry about disabling the existing sound card at this point.
1) Install the new sound card.
2) Windows XP should recognise it, if it comes up with a screen saying "If your hardware came with an installation CD, please insert it now" then do so.
3) If XP does not recognise it, but the sound card did come with a Driver CD, run that CD. If Windows still does not recognise it, go to Start - Control Panel - and click on Add Hardware wizard. Windows should then find it!
4) If your Sound Card did not come with a Driver CD, just go straight to Add Hardware wizard (see section 3 for instructions on how to get there) and hope for the best!
If Windows now recognises your Sound Card, set it as your default by going to Start - Control Panel - Sounds %26amp; Audio Devices, then select the Audio tab and set it as default for all the sections on that page.
You have now set up your Sound Card!
If none of this works, I dunno what the problem is.

How can I tell what kind of sound card I have?
I got a sound card from my old broken computer and want to use it on my new computer. I don't know where any of the original software is and I don't know what kind of sound card it is. I've been told to go to the sound card's manufaacturer's website. Can anyone tell me how to tell what kind of sound card it is, and if there are any easier ways to download a driver?
How can I tell what kind of sound card I have?
Pull the card out from your old computer and take a look at the manufacturer on the card itself. My bet is that you have a sound blaster, in which you can go directly to their download site that I've placed in the source link. Usually the card itself will have the make and model of the card.

Reply:Theres not a simple way to answer this, but basically, the sound card usually is in a pci slot on the motherboard. So, you would open up the case, remove the old card and firmly place the new card in the slot. It's actually really simple, though that might sound confusing. I would see if something is set on mute in the sound options before I would replace the hardware. Just right click the sound icon in the task bar and look to see if one of the boxes is check that says mute all.

How do can I make my sound card work?
I do not know the make of my sound card. I have a very old PC P3 600 Mhz with intel 810 motherboard. After I reinstalled windows Xp the soundcard is not showing in the device manager and windows media player cannot play anything. I have tried to auto detect the hardware from "Add new hardware" option but it is unable to install the driver automatically. Is there any universal sound card driver available?
How do can I make my sound card work?
You can most likely track down the drivers but you do need to know the specifics of the card you have. You could pop open the case and take a look to see if there's a logo somewhere on card. (could be right on the chip) Might even find more info on the card. The good news is you really can't screw too much up by installing the wrong drivers so if you at least get as far as finding the manufacturer you could go wild trying out as many drivers as you can find.
PS. Be weary of some of the driver search websites....some contain spyware...some don't. Just be sure to up the security settings if you're using internet explorer
Reply:Installing an old sound card may be quite difficult as you have to manually install it from the sound card driver. It would be more rational to download the updated driver from the Intel Site.
Once you've finished the download, open the executable file and manually install the sound driver. It will then install the driver albeit saying that your sound card is isn't "compatible" per se with Windows XP.
I'll give you the dl site for it. just click on it.

btw, your sound card is an AC97

Sound cards + video cards general research questions?
Hi, I'd like to ask the following about sound cards and video cards for a research project:
1) What companies dominate the sound card and/or video card industry (i.e. What company(ies) seem to be selling the most sound cards or video cards or are the most popular choices)?
2) What is the average price (CND or USD) of a sound card or video card?
All help will be greatly appreciated. Thank-you!
Sound cards + video cards general research questions?
If you mean "chipset" for video cards, the two most commonly talked about are ATI and Nvidia. These chipsets are found on many manufacturer's cards, however--from MSI to Asus and beyond.
Creative Soundblaster still leads the industry standard for soundcards.
Video graphics cards vary in price according to both popularity and features. Entry-level cards (the type most frequently placed in computer builds in order to keep costs down) seem to average right around $50, while some gaming cards can go clean up to $400-$500 depending on the retailer and features offered.
One of the more popular online retailers is Newegg.com, and it'd be my recommendation to check them out for a more thorough answer.
Reply:Video cards: ATI and Nvidia are the two main competitors, there is really no other contenders.
Sound cards: Creative, Soundmax and Turtle Beach.
Average price...
It all depends on the performance range.
I can't really say what the Average price is.
That is like asking "how much does the average automobile cost?"

How can I download and install a sound card?
Is it possible to download and install a sound card for free?? I have inheritated a computer from my brother and there does not seem to be any sound working, I have checked that the volume is not muted etc. Can anyone help? I have not got the manual etc. Its a fujitsu.
How can I download and install a sound card?
You cannot download a sound card. You must physically get one and install it. You can however usually find the required files to make an already-installed sound card work online. Just do a search with the model.
Reply:A sound card is hardware, which you have to buy. The driver is soft ware that you can down load from the sound-cards manufacture. If you have no sound you have to look to see if you have a sound card. If you have a sound card you need to get the drivers for it. If it does not seem to work you may have to replace it.
Reply:you have to download th DRIVER, not the sound card (you can't just download hardware :p) but on the official site of the card i guess you can find a new driver for your card.

Until recently, scientists had been able to transport only light or single atoms over short distances (millimeters). However, it was reported in October 2006 in the weekly science magazine "Nature" [3] that Professor Eugene Polzik and his team at the Niels Bohr Institute at Copenhagen University in Denmark have made a breakthrough in the field.[4] Their experiment involved the transportation of information from a weak light beam to a macroscopic atomic object containing thousands of billions of atoms, located half a meter away. The technique involved the use of quantum entanglement, quantum measurement and quantum feedback.
Reply:If there is no sound card physically in the computer, then no, you cannot download one. A sound card is hardware. Hardware is something you have to purchase from a store and physically install. If there is a sound card and it isn't working, you can try downloading and installing the driver. Generally, manufacturers offer free driver downloads. Just get the make and model number off of your card and go the the manufacturer's web site and look for driver downloads.

You can try going through http://driverguide.com
Just have to know what you're looking for.. As far as Make, model, Windows Version. etc., It's fairly simple.

If not, search the card printed side for the make (unless you already know) and use Google to go to that site.

How can I download and install a sound card?
You cannot download a sound card. You must physically get one and install it. You can however usually find the required files to make an already-installed sound card work online. Just do a search with the model.

How do you make sound appear after adding a sound card?
I installed a new sound card to my Windows 2000 HP computer and I can hear sound from the mic, but not from any other media (including programs and internet). This is frustrating. Please help me.
How do you make sound appear after adding a sound card?
Go into the bios and DISABLE the onboard sound. It will conflict with the sound card if not disabled.
On boot hit delete of F2 or what ever it syay to go to setup. go to onboard devices and disable it there.
Then reboot and if you have a driver disk install the new drivers. If not Windows sometime will load their generic drivers. Also you can go to your sound card mfg's web site and download the drivers.
Reply:Check to see that the drivers have been installed properly. (Generally I look for new drivers even when setting upa new machine, try this step.)
Make sure the drivers are loading by checking the started services.
Try one of the standard sounds schemes and see if you can hear them when using then test function
Make sure both the speakers and the sound volume are turned on and up.
Good Luck......

How to instruct a newbie to replace and install a new sound card on his own without messing up his pc?
Do I need to get a sound card that is compatible with my motherboard? I'm using Windows 2000 do I need to make any changes to the system? Do I need to install the driver for the card? Thanks.
How to instruct a newbie to replace and install a new sound card on his own without messing up his pc?
1. See if you have an empty PCI slot on the motherboard
2. If so, purchase a decent sound card
3. Unplug computer, remove side panel
4. Ground self to casing periodically
5. Remove set screw for the slot you are going to use from the computer case back side, save screw.
6. Firmly insert new sound card in PCI slot
7. Secure with screw
8. Connect Optical drive (cd, dvd) audio cables to card and drives
9. Replace side panel and power cord
10. restart machine and follow instruction for the 'new hardware found' message.....the disk should be with the card
Pretty easy, huh!
Reply:You won't need to make any changes but it's gonna be tough since most newer sound cards don't support 2000, only XP and above. All you should need to do is plug it into the appropriate slot, like PCI, and install the drivers. Any sound card should be compatible with your motherboard as long as the drivers support Windows 2000.
Reply:chances are if you buy a sound card it will fit right in no problem just un-do your case and slip that puppy in on an open port. youll see what i mean when you open it up. Most sound cards have CD's with the drivers so just run the cd and you should be on your way

Alternatives to Creative Sound Cards?
I have for years used Creative Sound Blasters, all the way back to the old 16-bit ISA models. I am very disappointed with them now. I have an Audigy 2 ZS Platinum... and Windows Vista. The driver they have pretty much sucks, and is not updated. I figured maybe their x-fi series is doing better, but doesn't seem so. Are there any other good gaming sound cards out there; I doubt they will support EAX, but decent directsound support should be fine (especially since Creative doesn't even support EAX for Audigy anymore)? As far as I know Creative is like a monopoly apart from onboard audio.

How can I increase the sound level output of my audio card?
The problem is I already adjust the sound volume of WinXP to maximum level and already replaced the Headset-earphone with a better one but still it's not that loud and of good quality compared to my other PC's that uses the same Headset but different motherboard, my Motherboard is ECS K7VTA3.. Please help me if anyone has idea or a software to enhanced it's level and quality.... Thanks for a response... It's a built-in sound card by the way like an on-board audio card, can it be done without buying a new audio card?
How can I increase the sound level output of my audio card?
plug it into an amplifier or active speakers (with volume control).
Reply:It sounds like you have to purchase a new audio card. You can get a good quality one for $40-$50.. they really aren't that expensive if you know where to look. If you do think about investing in this, try a Creative product.

How do I locate the sound card on my computer and then how can it be made to work?
There is no sound on my computer, I have made all the adjustments and checked all the mutes etc. I need to locate the sound card and/or find a way to test it. Then maybe replace it. I guess maybe if there is another way to get it to work that would be best, whatever; I just need some sound.
How do I locate the sound card on my computer and then how can it be made to work?
The sound car is the one with the mic, audio in and audio out jacks most of the time it also has a MIDI port for keybord, joy sticks an game controllers. If you do have a sound card press down on the edge to make sure it is seated properly.Check if the audio cable from your master cd or dvd drive is pluged into the sound card and the drive. in Windows 95 98 ME right click my computer/ left click propertys/ Left click hardware look and see if the sound card is listed. IF it is on the list with yellow question mark by it Left click it then left click remove then apply restart the computer at boot up it should automaticly dectect it and install the driver. If it fails to find the driver follow the prompts to install the driver. Windows xp is simmilar except the my computer button is on the start menu Right click My computer/ left click propertys /left click hardware/ left click device manager/ look for the sound card on the list right click then / left click propertys follow the instructions to update the driver
Reply:either it's a software problem or a hardware problem
1- Software:
ur soundcard is just fine but needs to be configured
: Check the sound driver CD u recieved with the computer (supposed to get this) and Install it
if it's a built in card it would be on the Motherboard's CD
and just install it (u may need to know what mark it's ..check ur invoice)
2- Hardware:
first...It just may be a Jumper setting that should be changed ...check ur motherboard's manual and see if all Audio related jumpers are in place.
second the card may be no longer used for some reason then u should try these
1- if it's not a builtin card...be sure it's holding in its place and that it fits in right..if not just press it well to get in the PCI slot
2- Change its slot if it's not builtin
3- the last solution replace it...if it's builtin u may need to change the JUMPERS settings on ur board...if it's PCI just get the old one out and put the new one in
Reply:maybe there's no drvier installed for the soubd card. try checking it with the device manager.
Reply:Well location of your sound card is totally dependent upon the Motherboard you use. In all recent motherboards it is inbuilt.
The possible reasons for malfunctioning sound card is:
1. You did not install a driver for it.
2. In worst case its hardware failure.
We hope for first option, assuming you are using a Genuine Windows Operating system. Then
1. Right Click upon My Computer
2. Select Manage
3. Go to device manager
4. Look for Sound, Video and Game Controller
5. Right click and scan the hardware.
6. It will install default driver from driver database or will ask for a disk.
7. If asked for a disk then insert your sound card disk given by manufacturer and brows to the filename specified.
8. It will install driver.
9. Restart system to listen to nice music.
For option 2 and non windows Operating system please call your System Vendor or Customer care executive!!!

What is the best sound card for optical input?
I have several audio devices with optical outputs. I want to know the best and cheapest sound card that takes these inputs.
It would be nice if the card had the optical connector mounted directly on it and not have an external breakout box.
Thanks!
What is the best sound card for optical input?
The best sound card for optical inputs is the Sound Blaster X-FI Elite Pro. For the money it is worth it. It has an X-Fi I/O Console that will let you plug virtually any device into it. I run both optical ports for my stereo.

How do i change the sound card on my computer?
I have a VAIO that has a outdated sound card and I want put in a 5.1 capable card. Otherwise, I have 3 speakers that make no sound. What I really need to know is can I just plug the new one, reassemble and it will work? Or do I need to take the old one out first?
How do i change the sound card on my computer?
Is the one you have now integrated into the motherboard or not? If not simply take it out and plug the new one in then install the drivers that comes with it. If the old one is integrated enter BIOS and disable it.
Reply:first open your case... second there is are white slots called "PCI slots"... make sure you un-plug your computer before any thing, now take that sound card and match it into that slot... but dont force it in, it should just snap in... once you do that, screw it in to your computer on the cards bracket, now close your case and turn on your computer... now install the software that comes with it, and it should diable the onboard card... restart after this process... and wala it should successfully work
Reply:put the new card instead of the old one but make sure that the new card is compatible to your system

How can I fix my laptop sound card/audio so it works without having to apply pressure to the laptop?
I'm having some trouble with audio on my HP Pavilion zv5255us laptop.
The sound card/audio does work so I know it's not a problem with the drivers, but I can only get sound when I apply pressure to the laptop, usually near the headphone jack. This happens when trying to listen through the speakers and through headphones. I've recently bought a Turtle Beach Audio Advantage Amigo to help the situation and it does work perfectly with headphones but I don't think there's a way to have it work through my laptop speakers. As I travel a lot I don't want to have to buy external speakers to listen to audio without headphones but I am willing to do this if necessary. I should also note that I will by buying a new laptop in about a year so I don't want to make any costly repairs/upgrades on this laptop.
Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.
How can I fix my laptop sound card/audio so it works without having to apply pressure to the laptop?
This is most likely due to a bad connection somewhere within the laptop, probably near the sound car or speakers. Your only real option it to pull the laptop apart, and look for lose connections somewhere. It could be a bad pin, lose wire, or a solder that came loose somewhere.
The definite fix for this would be to replace the motherboard. I had a video problem once on a desktop that was very similar, only worked with pressure on the port, I opened up the PC, jiggled some wires and connections, and then it was fine.

What type of sound card do I need to install a speech recognition program?
I am considering purchasing a speech recognition system for my PC. From my understanding, it comes with everything but a "sound card." I'm not sure I understand what a sound card is. How do I know which one to buy? How much do they cost? And, for anyone who already has such a system, how easy is it to install?
What type of sound card do I need to install a speech recognition program?
Most PCs come with a sound card preinstalled, or with sound circuitry built into the motherboard. If you have a microphone input and speaker outputs on the back of your PC, you have what you need. They're normally 1/8" phone jacks. The microphone jack is pink and the speaker jack is light green.
If you don't have a sound card (and that's highly unlikely) you can get one at any computer store. It plugs into a PCI slot on the motherboard.

What is the purpose of an "HD" Audio sound card in a laptop?
Ok I have an Acer laptop. It is an Aspire 5610Z with Windows Vista Ultimate. Inside this thing is a Realtek "HD" Audio sound card, which I have been so curios about, because I do music creation with a program called FL studio, and I deal with sound cards and such. My laptop cannot play HD DVDs. So I may be answering my own question here but obviously it must play HD Audio. So I guess my real question is where I get this HD Audio from. Websites? CD's? And in order to "hear" the sound in "HD" I’m assuming you must have more than just an HD audio sound card. The right Cables, Certain Speakers, etc. I may be totally wrong about the whole Idea of this, and that is why I am asking you. If anyone knows and can explain to me the whole idea or Purpose of this HD Sound card, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank You.

could someone tell me any info on soundcards, things like what they can do and stuff, I have a pci interface and was thinking of buying one, which ones are the best ect. I have seen ones on ebay for £1
Sound cards?
They give potentially better sounding sound, and esp. can manage multiple speakers, special effects like EAX, etc.
I never use one with my 2 stereo speaker setup and my onboard sound is still great. Make sure you really need it, cuz it may not really do much for you.

I need a new sound card driver for my laptop but i dont know the name of the sound card Ive got????
Is their anyway that you can just get a gereral driver or something so that i can have sound on my laptop???
Thanks!

Sometimes if U do Windows update,,,this can detect the driver itself,,,,
Otherwise GOTO Start%26gt;%26gt;Right Click on My Computer%26gt;%26gt;Properties%26gt;%26gt;Advanced%26gt;%26gt;Device Manager%26gt;%26gt;Click on the (+) Next to Sound Devices...
Or just go into control pannel%26gt;%26gt;Sound devices%26gt;%26gt;and U should see the name of the sound card U have...
Reply:The laptop manufactuer's website should have the driver you need and you should be able to search for it by the model # of your laptop.
Reply:Not really, the best thing to do is go to the manufacturers website and download a new driver for it (If its not already on the system, then I would say you probably upgraded to Vista), and depending on the system, you may not get the sound to work properly anyway, the only ones I know that Vista has REAL problems with is realtec (common onboard sound right now, but unsupported in Vista because they were bought out by another company, and having problems getting it to work properly, only half-a##ed).
Try the website for manufacturer, and pray

I think I blew my sound card but I'm not sure how or when. When I turn my volume all the way up I can here my music a little but it's all scratchy and low. Does this mean my sound card is blown?
Sound cards...?
Plug your speakers into the headphone jack on a stereo, if you hear the sound clearly, at low volume, then your speakers are ok. It could be, the cable to the speakers from the sound card, may have come lose. Unpug it then plug it back in.
If plugging them back into the sound card doesn't work, the it is very likely, you will need a new sound card.

I have connected a headset/microphone to my computer.using the red and black ports based on the top of my computer. I can play and hear music through these headphones and also through my speakers attached via the sound card at the rear of the computer. However I am unable to configure enough volume on the microphone to use it with instant messaging. The mic volume tab is at maximum but not enough sound seems to be generated to talk to friends etc. All my sound and video controllers are working. What is the problem and how can I solve it? A second sound card perhaps?

Reply:Try a different Mike first, %26amp; try pluging both into the back jacks.
Reply:I would open your Volume Control, and mute the mic in the window that opens. I'm not done yet, don;t worry, this is just so you don;t hear yourself from your speakers or headphones when you talk. Now click Option at the top, and make sure Advanced is checked. If it isn't, click Advanced, if it is, click properties. Now choose Recording in the new window that pops up and click Ok. Your Volume Control window should change. Under the mic, click advanced and check Mic Boost. Try it with mic boost on, it should be significantly louder

How do you fit a sound card?
No sound coming out. My pc tells me the sound programme is ok, the driver is ok and the speakers are working, so i guess the sound card got blown when there was a recent power surge (via the modem).
So how do i put a new one in? Opened it up, but i am a novice and recognise nothing. What do i look for, and is it a case of pull the old one out and pop the new one in?
Are all s-cards basically the same or can you recommend one?
Thank you!
How do you fit a sound card?
Assuming you are simply looking for sound, not looking for the latest, greatest theatre sound etc, just go get a card...to fit your budget. (in my case....as cheap as pssible!)
second assumption, you actually have a sound card as against 'on-board' sound. If you cant find a card with the little coloured sockets on it, you have on-board sound, instead of 'removing the card' remove a blanking plate to enable you to fit a card.
To fit the card, remove the side (as you have) leave the PC plugged in but swirched off at the mains
Looking at your mass inside the PC, the sound card is the one with little pink...blue...green...black... jack sockets on it, there may be others as well.
Rules of combat, one hand for you, one hand on the metal of the PC case, this will prevent 'static damage'
On the card, inside the PC, you will see a metal bracket with one cross head screw, loosen this screw and remove it...dont loose it, mind.
Gently, ease the card out. Now, refit the new card where the old one came from, secure with the screw. make sure the card is well seated in the socket.
Have a cuppa, you did well.
Now, restart the PC, install the software, follow the prompts...
If you originally had 'on-board sound' you will need to disable this in BIOS. Look to the motherboard manufacturers website for your motherboard manual if you have not got one.
Reply:Without seeing inside your computer, it's difficult to advise you. A lot of modern computers have the sound chips integrated onto the motherboard, so you wouldn't just be able to pull it out.
The easiest way to tell would be to look at the inside to where you plug in the speaker cable, and see what it's connected to. If you have a separate sound card, you'll see that the speaker jack is actually on a separate piece of metal that's attached to a card that plugs in sideways-on to the motherboard - this is the card, it's usually fixed by a small screw at the end of that metal piece. (Obviously, make sure the computer power is off and unplugged before you start yanking bits out, though.)
However, if the speaker jack is in the same area as the keyboard and USB ports, the likelihood is that you have integrated sound. But even so you might be able to plug in a new sound card and just disable the integrated bit in the BIOS.
Creative are the main company that make sound cards. They do a range from fairly basic ones to very expensive professional-quality ones. If you're just after sound for music and games, it's not worth paying more than £25. See http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Products.... for some options.

Is it possible to run 2 sound cards simultaniously on a PC using the same source input?
It is possible, in theory.
But why would you want to do that?
If you want to be able to hook multiple audio systems too it, just get a headphone splitter. Save yourself the money and hassle.
Is it possible to run 2 sound cards simultaniously on a PC using the same source input?
No. You must have two inputs.
Reply:in the past i've ran a total of 3 (+1 daughterboard).. now i run 2, but if i turned the onboard one i'd have 3..
errm if the onboard one is rubbish, sure u can upgrade.
i only use 2 for music.. one is a mixer.. one a soundcard.. other than for music making i can't see why ppl would use more than one.
with games etc, you only can use ONE at a time.
Reply:no, the computer will not recognise either of the sound cards and you will not get any sound, or if you do, it will not sound right. and you can't connect 2 sound cards to the same input port anyway!
Reply:yup it is possible if you have the slots available for each of your sound card.
but why use two anyway? i assume that you can't use them at the same time cause for sure the other one will cancel out the other if you use them at the same time. haven't you noticed that you are not able to use the built-in sound card in your motherboard once you have installed a new one that produces good sound quality unlike the one built-in during manufacturing process of your board?
to be honest... i have not seen a motherboard that had two soundcard slots on it. (^_^)

Sound Cards?
Whats the point with sound cards.
I know that its meant to make sound better... But does it?
I've got a computer, dont listen to much music on it, and when i do i dont see what could be improved.
I expect on my new build i will just have an onboard sound but i'd just like to know why people buy it and what it does?
Sound Cards?
Integrated sound works just fine for most people and most applications BUT if you want to use multiple speaker configurations or do more with sound than just listen a dedicated sound card can increase these abilities. I have a Turtle Beach sound card and it has options like: digital output (so I can push digital sound to another peripheral) switchable port (in or out), configurable ports (so I can make them do multiple jobs) and more options to configure or shape the sound. It has been such a phenomenal card and works so well that I have moved it into my new computers as I upgraded and continue to use it 6 years later!
Reply:Sound cards will give you a more better experience. It can support better 5.1 surround sound and other experiences. I have noticed with a sound card, bass is better heard, and improves quality overall. That's on basic software programs. But if you play any newer games, you can hear footsteps better and hear a lot more better quality sound than you did before.
Reply:Some sound cards do all of the hard work right on the card, thus letting your CPU free for other stuff.
And there is even a sound difference on the high sound cards, but for basic stuff onboard sound is fine.
Reply:Well, to get any sound what-so-ever... you need one. Most integrated sound cards just aren't as good as PCI.
If you don't game, listen to music, or record music, there would be no point to upgrading.
Reasons I upgraded mine are for more inputs (I used to record music), better sound, more outputs. I have a 5.1 surround sound system so the upgrade was necessary. Sound definitely gets better with better cards. Of course it's all for nothing if you don't have decent speakers too.
Reply:For most users if your motherboard has on board sound that will be good enough. Sound cards are for those of us who either don't have on board sound, or are really into sound, be it with movies, or music. You also need to go out and buy expensive speakers, or you will be hard pressed to notice the difference. Personally even with good speakers, and a good sound card I am hard pressed to notice a difference, but that is just my ears. I know those who say they can hear every single solitary note played when listening to music on good equipment.
Reply:Its not really for the quality of the sound, it depends how much speakers it can handle. 2.1, 4.1, 5.1 dolby digital and 7.1. Generally you'll need a sound card for older computers since they may not support high end speakers. Some sound cards can improve sounds for gaming. Some sound cards have a input plug where you can connect a joystick or a piano keyboard. It is basically to expand and can do more with sound. This is key for disk jockies and people who need good equipment to edit music and vise-versa.

Headphone jack and sound cards?
is it possible for something plugged into the headphone jack to ruin the sound card. i took a cellphone apart the other day i had found and i wanted to see if the speaker still worked. so i took a pair of busted headphones and stripped the wire, then pressed the wires against the copper contact plates on the cellphone speaker. played some music. now my sound doesn't work properly. it sounds all crackly and slow, high voices like girls are REALLY low and i can't even understand them.

This is primarily a computer related question, rather than home theater. I suspect that, if you post in the "Computers %26amp; Internet" forum you will get answers. That's where the computer experts hang out.

Sound cards for pc compatible with Vista?
i have recently just built a pc and wanted to upgrade my intergrated audio card to one with sound recording quality.
the only problem is finding a sound card that is good for recording and is compatible with windows vista.

Sound cards for pc compatible with Vista?
Any Sound Card made from Creative in the past 6 years has a Vista patch or applicable drivers for it, i suggest you consider getting one of their newer X-fi sound cards which will give you a superb sound quality both in the audio in and the audio out given that you have the right equipment to go with it, ie a nice microphone.
Reply:http://www.soundblaster.com/
Reply:Vista is having tons of compatibility problems right now with everything hardware. Look on the side of the box of the audio card to see if it is compatible or not, it should have a sticker on it to say "Vista Compatible".

Sound cards working with DOS programs?
There is an old computer emulator I use frequently that runs under DOS. The sound worked fine on my Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 card under Windows ME, but since upgrading to XP, the sound is now noisy and unclear. Oddly enough, the same program runs fine on my laptop under XP. The laptop has a built in Altec Lansing sound card. Would changing to a non-Sound Blaster card that is 5.1 compatible in my desktop computer possibly clear up this problem?
Sound cards working with DOS programs?
No. Sound cards nowadays are losing their compatibility with DOS. Your best bet, if your computer is powerful enough, is to run the program in an emulator like DOSBox.
http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/download.p...
Reply:Check and see if you are using Quick Time..if you are you may need to set up the preferences. I had the same problem..
The sound or music was distorted and seemed to be over amplified. Note the setting for type of playback in Quick time.
Reply:Try running it under dosbox, it kicks butt when it comes to running dos programs: http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/
I have a bunch of old dos games and programs that don't seem to run on anything, but they work great with dosbox, sound and all.
Reply:I might try with different drivers versions. A Sound Blaster must be more compatible than the Altec Lansing. If that test fails, I'd rather think on moving to virtual machines than an emulator

What drivers should be installed to make a sound card work?
Before you give the gut reaction, the driver for the sound card, let me explain that I know this. I have two used desktops and one used laptop I've repaired, exchanging some parts. The desktops are 98 and the laptop is ME. I've identified the sound card, downloaded the appropriate driver and istalled it. The problem? While the computers think everything is OK, all 3 do not produce sound. If it were one, I'd call it a bad sound card, but not all three. When I look on my XP computer, there is a whole bunch of items in addition to the sound card driver listed under sound devices in the device manager. Are there other software drivers that need to be installed in addition to the actual sound card driver?
What drivers should be installed to make a sound card work?
is there any error on those bunch of items? if there is none then try to check volume control. if there is then you might have installed the wrong driver. normally just a driver is enough for the sound card to work. try to look at the sound card's chip and search the driver online
Reply:are you sure about your sound card is working?

Laptop add on sound cards which one is the best in your opinion ?
it has to be the creative sound blaster audigy 2 ZS
GOOD INFO:
Portable PC card design is great for laptops; supports Dolby Digital EX and DTS-ES 6.1 decoding; 7.1-channel output; 24-bit/192KHz output for two-channel DVD-Audio sources; THX certified.
BOTTOM LINE:
If you don't mind sacrificing a few convenient features for truly portable design, Creative's Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Notebook turns your laptop into a bona fide sound system.
IT IS WONDERFUL I HAVE THIS ON MY LAPTOP!
I RATE IT 9.6 out of 10
This is a great product for gamers and movie / music lovers.

I prefer the Creative Labs sound cards, they make quite a few USB devices ranging in price
Reply:USB SoundBlaster Audigy 2 NX by Creative Labs, available for around £80, (you can get the basic one for around £40 or the PCMCIA version for around £100, but the USB version is the most versatile in my opinion).

How to disable my sound card?
I have a sound card built in my mother board and I have a PCI sound card. When I plug in the PCI sound card the built in automatically disables. When I disable the PCI one from device manager it still doesnt detect the in built one.So the point is that I want to switch between both sound cards without having to physically take out the PCI card.
How to disable my sound card?
dont disable ur pci sound card just uninstall the driver for it.
keep a copy of the driver instalatiion on ur hard drive for later use.
even then u'll hv to restart ur pc again for it to detect the on board one
Reply:Maybe a new mother board would help. I can run both at the same time with no problem, or disable either with device manager.
Reply:ok let see, go to start, then control panel, check sounds and audio devices, look up to the top where it says audio, u should see some drop down menu, that if the computer recognized your add on sound card, if it did choose that as a default, then proceed while in control panel, go to systems, look at tab at top where it reads, hardware, click on it , look below after doin that, and click on device manager, click on it go down the list and find sound , video and game controllers , find the onboard name of sound card listed, right click and hit disable. hope this helps, it should it the computer recognized your new added on sound card,

What other types of video/sound cards can I use to play Call of Duty 2 on my Dell Dimension 4600 computer?
Computer: Intel Pentium 4 CPU 2.80Ghz, 512mb ram
System: Windows XP Home version 2002 service pack 2
Network adapters: Intel(R) pro/100 VE network connection
Audio: Legacy audio drivers
Video Card: don't know ?
What other types of video/sound cards can I use to play Call of Duty 2 on my Dell Dimension 4600 computer?
First, need to know what you have to know if you need to upgrade.
Right click My Computer %26gt; Properties %26gt; Hardware Tab %26gt; Device Manager button %26gt; click the + next to Display Adapters.
There's a good chance you'll have a Radeon 9800Pro. This is a damn strong card and there isn't much available as an upgrade. Nvidia does have AGP versions of the 7300 out for close to the fastest card without a motherboard upgrade.
However, you might just save your money for a whole new PC since AGP is dying and spending money on upgrading to old technology is rarely a good idea.

What sound cards are available?
and what considerations should be given before purchase?
What sound cards are available?
If you are looking for Surround Sound, you need to get a 5.1 channel or better soundcard.
Otherwise - no special considerations. Drivers are provided with all retail soundcard.
Reply:The answer to this question is What do you want to do with it?
If you want a sound card for everyday use then any will do.
But if you want to watch DVD's VCD's or play high end games then I would recomend a Audigy series soundcard or a X-FI series from creative as these are top of the range cards.

Am i able to insert 2 sound cards in my computer and use the multiple cards to connect to my speakers?
Windows by default has to choose one of the two cards or you can do that yourself, but then again it happens that one card cancels the other one for better performance on your system and less conflicts...I wanted to do something similar since I have a large speaker system, but then I knew it was not gonna happen to run both cards, So what I did is split the sound with Y stereo 3.5 mm splitters and change the sound card which gave me some static sound once using the splitters for a usb optical/3.5mm jack output and plug in as many splitters as needed, that helped me get rid of the static sound that really annoyed me.
Now I have even my home theater system hooked with my computer, plus a separate set of 5.1 computer speakers attached to the pc.
This is the usb sound device I use:
http://www.turtlebeach.com/products/micr...
It performs great and comes with a software with an equalizer u can modify as u wish, mine performs great with deep clear stunning sound.....
Am i able to insert 2 sound cards in my computer and use the multiple cards to connect to my speakers?
hi mate
yes you can but as allready mentioned you need to re-assign i.r.q,s so as not to conflict and its more problems than you will ever experience
its far easier to use your existing soundcard and connect a external soundcard such as the Icemat Siberia USB External 7.1 Sound Card -(http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduc...
however for a excellent aural experience with just a single soundcard why not try the Asus Xonar D2X 7.1 PCI-Express Sound Card(http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduc... is by far the best soundcard i have ever seen(and heard)
this card can far outperform most soundblaster cards and is a popular card with gamers aswell
good luck mate !
Reply:I guess the first question is, why would you want to do that? I think you will probably run into driver and IRQ conflicts if you try to run 2 sound cards, unless you have something like a specialized card for music studio recording.
Reply:Yes you are, but you may have to select which app uses which card. Its quite difficult, near impossible to get both cards working from one app (Such as a game). Maybe just use a splitter (Y connector) and use just the one card?
Reply:You can't have two cards working at the same time one knocks the other one off automatically.
Reply:not advisable. it will cause conflicts, simply buy multichannel sound card and speakers

What kind of video and sound card should I get for my computer?
I took a picture of my mother board:
http://img475.imageshack.us/my.php?image...
I heard that I need to get the right video and sound cards that can fit into those slots. So what kind of video and sounds card should I get? My computer is Intel celeron 2.8 Ghz, 1536mb rams.
Also, just out of curiousity, I know that my video and sound cards should fit into those white slots (see picture). I wonder what's that black slot (see picture) be used for?
Thanks.
What kind of video and sound card should I get for my computer?
The black slot is an AGP slot, and is actually what you should plug the graphics card into. You would plug the sound card into one of the white slots, which are PCI slots.
So for a graphics card, you'll want one that connects via AGP 8X/4X, and you can get any sound card because they all plug into PCI.
Reply:The video card does not fit in the PCI slots (the white ones) it actually goes the the AGP slot (the black one).
You have an AGP slot so only AGP cards fit in it.

Are sound cards worth their price tags ?
$50, $100, $150 for sound cards ???
Are sound cards worth their price tags ?
If you play games or are into watching movies or listening to lots of music on your PC, absolutely yes. One of the best values in sound cards right now is the Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme music, the lowest end X-Fi card. In games you will get a much better depth of feel for the environment as it improves on how many sounds can be run at one time.
If you have a 4.1/5.1 or 7.1 speaker system attached to your computer you need at the very least a Sound Blaster Live!, a little better than that is the Audigy 2 (at $64). But the best one right now you can get without breaking the bank is the X-Fi Xtreme Music at $120.
Reply:No problem. Report Abuse
Reply:it all depends what you do with your PC if you just are gonna listen to mp3's probably not if you are gonna play high end games you might want to look into it

How to toggle from one sound card to another ?
I have a SBPCI Sound Card which is connected to my speeakers. I want to use my onboard sound card for receiving output thru my headphones so that i can shift to and from my speakers and headphones without bothering the wires. When i try to disable one of the sound cards from the device manager , the pc prompts me to restart.. How to i set both of them up.
How to toggle from one sound card to another ?
Have you tried going through the control panel?
start-%26gt;control panel-%26gt;sounds and audio device properties.
there you can set your midi and other sound outputs to use seperate cards/devices. It isn't really a "toggle" option, but it does give you different out put options. There should be(pending your setup) an option to use the system speaker or headphone or speaker options. hope this helped.

What would be the difference of an integrated sound card and a PCI one?
For surround sound. Usually integrated sound cards have only two ports for speakers and one for the microphone. Is there anything special, extra from buying another sound card? Aside from being able to use 7.1 surround sound.
What would be the difference of an integrated sound card and a PCI one?
Using a PCI sound card will not make your computer faster or use less RAM, if that's what you're wondering. If you buy a really good sound card, like some of the Creative Audigy cards for example, you'll get better sound quality and surround sound. Unless you're planning to use it for a Home Theatre PC however, I wouldn't bother.
Reply:An integrated sound card is a sound card that is installed on you motherboard already. A PCI sound card is a sound card u buy for stores and u plug it inside motherboard. IS the same actually unless u want high quality sound
Reply:For one thing, with PCI, you can update in the future. And replace it if it breaks. if the onboard one breaks, the whole motherboard has to be replaced.
Reply:An integrated sound card is just chips built right onto the motherboard, and not really a card at all.
A PCI sound card is just that: an add-on card that fits in a PCI expansion slot.
You can find onboard sound that supports 7.1, it just depends on the motherboard. Usually one of the advantages of a PCI sound card is better noise isolation.

The motherboard I am purchasing has integrated sound that supports 8 channels (Realtek ALC850). The problem is that I cannot find a computer speaker system that supports 8 channel sound cards. I do not want a huge sound system, just one of those boxed computer kits. Please provide any SPECIFIC suggestions for an speaker system that supports 8 channel sound.
What speaker system should I get for an 8 channel sound card?
the sound card supports 8 channels but that doesn't mean that you have to use all 8. if you don't want a huge sound system then just get a 5.1 surround sound system that is in your budget...

What is a good sound card to record music from a Guitar?
My brother plays guitar and writes his own songs. For christmas, I would like to get him a sound card that he can plug his guitar into (the same cord he would plug into an amp, or something similar from the amp) and record his music. I know plenty about computer hardware, but don't know a thing about high-end sound cards. Where is a good place to start and what kind of things am I looking for / should I be aware of?
Thanks!
What is a good sound card to record music from a Guitar?
Soundblaster extreme music for about $100. I believe you can get an adapter to plug a guitar into your mic input on the soundcard from places like the source (radio shack). It's just a mic converter (so stereo mics can fit into a regular sound card input jack) and i believe it can double as a sound input converter for other audio equipment. To make sure though, you should check your local computer store and make sure it will work with a guitar.
Thanks!

Is it possible to force a program to use a sound card other than the default?
My computer has two sound cards, the factory which I use for all the computer related sounds. I also have another card installed which I use to play music and such on my computer to my stereo. I have windows media player (WMP) set to play all my music and such through my secondary sound card. I have a program that I want to always use the secondary sound card as well, just like WMP. However it doesn't have the option like WMP, so the only way I can get it to play through my secondary sound card is be setting it to primary, in which case all sound goes through it. I use Windows XP. Any help or ideas would be greatly appriciated.
Is it possible to force a program to use a sound card other than the default?
The answer to your question really depends on the software. The software needs to have the option to select the audio device otherwise it will use the default windows audio device.

well, since you didn't stay whether you were looking to buy, or were trying to find out the info on the one in your puter, let me give you two answers.
for the one actually in your puter, Click on Start, go to My Computer and right click on THAT, then click on Properties, after Properties opens, go to the Hardware Tab and click on that, then, Click on Device Manager, when that opens, click on Display Adapters, and that will tell you the one in your puter.
If you're looking to buy, go to TigerDirect.com, or any other manufacturer, and check them out. If you're looking to buy and need it right NOW, go to your local store that sells computer parts and research there, as well.

hi. my friend bought a pci sound card to replace the old he had, but when i tried to connect it to his mother board i noticed that his board slot are a little bigger than the usual pci mother board slot, as you know that sound cards has a gap between it's terminal the first part (i dunno what it is called) is the larger part and the second is the smallest part, the largest part, fits completely, but the second part is a little smaller, i tried connecting it taking the benefit of the doubt but the pc doest boot that only means that there is a not compatible hardware.
what kind of mother board is that and what kind of sound card will i ask him to buy..
thanks in advanced!

Sound cards come in several different lengths and standards. Be sure that you buy the right type of card for your computer. Usually the choice runs between PCI (Peripheral Component Interface) and ISA (Industry Standard Architecture) cards. PCI slots are always shorter than ISA slots and usually white; ISA slots are always longer than PCI slots and usually black. Check your computer's manual to be sure.

You might be trying to connect it in the PCI Express slot. The PCI slots are below that, and should be the same size as your card. The PCI Express slots are for display cards *only*.
Also newer motherboards have very few PCI slots, so they might have been used up already...
Reply:hehe... this is a problem that is only about 5 years old.
Several years ago they decided that the newer video and sound cards etc needed different connections to the motherboards. SO what happened is that the slots changed to accept this. Likewise the cards changed.
As a result you may be trying to plug a new card into an old motherboard... or maybe you are trying to plug an old one into a new motherboard.
Since most motherboards these days have better inbuilt sound cards than the old sound cards then you wouldnt be installing an old into a new.
Since you appear to be putting a new sound card into an old motherboard then you should consider that it might be time to get a new motherboard and cpu... my guess is that you are going to overwork your system too.
As a side not to anyone upgrading their computer. Pieces are made to fit... do not try to force it, computers are like lego, they do not require force, they just fit.
If it does not fit then you cant put it there... it is as simple as that.
Reply:Well it sounds like your friend needs a new motherboard. Those are ISA slots, which is pre PCI, you won't find a retail sound card for his MB. You can of course find something online but if he's got a computer that old I'd just upgrade the whole darn machine. If for some reason that isn't an option then look for an ISA sound card.
Reply:You make sure that you are using PCI sound card and your pc is having PCI slot. Sometime eventhough the second part is small the manufacturer might have omitted n/c pins. Make sure that its PCI sound card. if its fit properly the slot then either your pci slot might be faulty or your card might be faulty.
Try changing the slot. If its not pci it wont fit into slot as you written first half fits properly.
It sounds you are using PCI card to PCI slot. Try once again by interchanging the slot by inserting card to next slot.

How do i find the correct video and sound card to download?
I have installed sims 2 in my computer with 3 expansion packs but the last 2 expansion packs have had graphics problems with flashing,my video and sound cards are out of date, manufacturer is sis, chip type is sis 661fx rev 01,sound card is realtek ac97 audio.I want to make sure i download the correct updates.Thanks.
How do i find the correct video and sound card to download?
If you're absolutely sure that your graphics chip is the SiS 661FX and the soundcard is Realtek AC97, you can downloed the drivers from the following sites.
If, on the other hand, there's any doubt in your mind, I'd advise downloading and installing Belarc Advisor. It's a free programme that will give you a comprehensive breakdown of both the hardware and software that make up your computer. You can then go from there.
If you have any problems, or simply need a helping hand, feel free to click on my avatar/photograph and send me an email. I'll do my best to help you out.
Reply:Your drivers should be here:

Judging from your question, you probably want:
Revision A6 S.0 for your graphics.
Revision 3.61 for the audio.
Reply:Go into your device manager and right click on your graphics driver. Click "properties" and then update your driver. If there are any new updates, it will download and install them.
Reply:Just go to their websites, the most recent drivers will be the correct ones.
Reply:just look it up on the internet

How to use two sound cards in Traktor Dj Studio???
U can't because 2 sound cards conflict motherboard hardware resources sharing I/O, IRQs.
U may try onboard sound and a sound card, it might work for some model motherboard.

Can sound, wireless and video cards be put in other laptops?
My Sony Vaio PCG k23 does not work anymore because the motherboard is fried. My question is can I take the sound, video and wireless cards from it and put them in a dell e505? I am not sure what is comptiable with what.
Can sound, wireless and video cards be put in other laptops?
If they are individual cards that can be removed from the computer, then yes you can. You'll need the drivers for the cards once you've plugged them into another computer.
Reply:Laptops usually don't have seperate cards for this, they are usually part of the motherboard and can't be relocated to another computer.
Reply:Seems not possible
Reply:call dell support, they will let you know or call software companys that sell these cards, they will tell you if they will work
Reply:Usually the only one fo these that may be seperate is the wireless card if you purchased it as a card and is not internal. All the rest are normally integrated to the motherboard

Sound and video cards for PC games with a laptop? can I even use them, or do I even need them?
I'm sorry I'm such a n00b, I am trying to play American Mcgee's Alice for the first time. Just installed it, but it won't work. I guess because I don't have a video or sound card? But I just looked it up online and it seems you can only install them into a PC (and they're pricey). How do you play games on laptops? Or are there special sound and video card plug-in type thingies for notebooks?
Please answer,
and thanks in advance
