I have a VAIO that has a outdated sound card and I want put in a 5.1 capable card. Otherwise, I have 3 speakers that make no sound. What I really need to know is can I just plug the new one, reassemble and it will work? Or do I need to take the old one out first?
How do i change the sound card on my computer?
Is the one you have now integrated into the motherboard or not? If not simply take it out and plug the new one in then install the drivers that comes with it. If the old one is integrated enter BIOS and disable it.
Reply:first open your case... second there is are white slots called "PCI slots"... make sure you un-plug your computer before any thing, now take that sound card and match it into that slot... but dont force it in, it should just snap in... once you do that, screw it in to your computer on the cards bracket, now close your case and turn on your computer... now install the software that comes with it, and it should diable the onboard card... restart after this process... and wala it should successfully work
Reply:put the new card instead of the old one but make sure that the new card is compatible to your system
Reply:All of those answers are good, but, remember, always make sure that the card you are installing is compatible.. :)
2) plug in new card
3) install driver
