My computer stopped putting out sound. I even bought new speakers but nothing changed. I'm pretty sure its the sound card...So how do I replace it?

Reply:Rarely do soundcards just stop functioning. Did you upgrade your OS...Windows Vista...XP? You probably only need some reconfiguration of your devices. I need to know more of what happened and I am certain anyone with ANY PC(orMAC) knowledge would agree. I CAN help you. EMAIL me...raginwolf2000@yahoo.com
Reply:Theres not a simple way to answer this, but basically, the sound card usually is in a pci slot on the motherboard. So, you would open up the case, remove the old card and firmly place the new card in the slot. It's actually really simple, though that might sound confusing. I would see if something is set on mute in the sound options before I would replace the hardware. Just right click the sound icon in the task bar and look to see if one of the boxes is check that says mute all.
Reply:You probably dont need to replace it. You may have just lost the driver. Download the driver from the pc mfgs website or the sound card mfgs website.
Reply:Take off the side cover, unplug the power, release the old sound card, put in the new one and refit the sidecover. Restart the computer and run the driver disk that came with your new card
Reply:Buy a new one. Remove the old one, and follow the instructions that come with the new one to install it.
Reply:if it's built-in to the motherboard, you should be able to disable it in the computer's BIOS and then install a new card. In the O/S, disable the old sound card resources and enable the new one. When you open up the sound properties, make sure it points to the new device.
Reply:Well first of u need to determine if u even have a PCI sound card or if u sound is what is called "on board" which means it a part of the motherboard and cant me remover. Open Ur case and see if were u plug in Ur speakers in, is attached to an actual Card or if its just part of the whole mother board.. if its an acutal card( usally new pc have on board so there is no sound card persay to remover) u should remover(remember to unplug ur mechine first) and take it to a friends and try it there. so that u can be sure before spending money that it is ur sound card and not some other thing... once u have figure that its ur sound card. all u need to do is put in a new sound card, if u have on board sound u will need to remove the drivers for it befor installing the new sound card.. and setup the drivers with the cd it came with..
