How well do sound cards work?

do sound cards really release a lot of stress off the cpu

if so, how big of a difference does it make???

How well do sound cards work?
If you mean a PCI sound card *** opposed to on the motherboard, won't make a blind bit of difference, as the onboard one uses it's own sound processing chips anyway, just they happen to live on the main board.
Reply:They not only take some load off the processor, they also increase sound quality 10 fold compared to integrated sound cards.
Reply:it doesn;t make a big difference. sound does not put much stress on your processor if any. some computers have onboard sound on the mother board. but many poeple, including me have had problems with the sound on the motherboard, it stops working, or doesn;t work right. So i installed a sound card. most cards are higher quality than onboard sound.
