My computer registers my speakers now that i installed my sound card but i cant hear anything what happening?

I lost my whole hard drive and i had to get a new one i had no sound coming from my speaker and it wasent registering them. Then i was told to install the sound cards so i did and now it registers them but no sound comes out the speakers work fine and i have tested it with over speakers and same thing happens what should i do?

My computer registers my speakers now that i installed my sound card but i cant hear anything what happening?
Either right-click on the sound icon in the sys tray (by the clock) or in the control panel and choose sound. the sound and voice tabs should list for playback and recording. Choose the sound card for both and hit apply. Also make sure to check the volume levels for the device and nothing is muted. You should not have to reboot after this, but it may help to restart any programs that use sound like instant messenger(s).
Reply:Make sure any mobo sound is disabled, and that you have drives installed for the sound card.

My sound card can play sound in windows media but not on the internet?

Hello,

Just recently ive installed a PCI Sound Card into my computer, now i installed the driver propertly and the sound card is working, but the sound is only playing in Windows Media Player, when i try to play sound from Bebo or YouTube im not hearing nothing even know the sound it full up on the speakers and computer.

Eairlier someone told me to uninstall the card, to remove it and start the computer up again, disable the Motherboard Sound card by DOS in which i did, then put your new sound card back in and reinstall the drivers but the same problem occurs, i also tryied downloading Flash 9 again that plays the video and sounds but its not helping.

At the moment i have the motherboard soundcard disabled, is there any way in making the PCI soundcard the Default?

Once again i cant hear sound from the internet, but i can hear sound from Windows Media Player.

Does anyone know?

My sound card can play sound in windows media but not on the internet?
I know this is not funny cause i just had the same problem myself on my GF pc. Go into ur BIOS setting,on speakers settings turn it on,reboot pc %26amp; come back into Control panel %26amp; see if ur new sound card is in there under each tab,it wont be under the very first one tho cause it is just Gen.Info.If it is there %26amp; not viewable set each one to ur new SC name,on the bottom click Default or use as Default. After ur done with ur settings go to START, programs, Acc, Entertainment %26amp; sound recorder %26amp; try ur mic %26amp; speakers from there. If they work go to a room %26amp; try em in it. IF u still dont have it online uninstall ur yahoo messenger %26amp; down grade to the 7.0 messenger.

How do ii find out what sound card i have?

hi i have no sound when i go to the sounds and audio devices in conrtol panel its all greyed out meaning i need to get the sound card driver but how do i find out what type of sound card driver i need or what type of sound card it is.

please help me

thank you

How do ii find out what sound card i have?
Open the side panel of your PC, and then find the sound card. It should be on the board somewhere. If it is integrated into the motherboard, then that might be a little more difficult. If your PC was manufactured by HP, Dell, etc. , what I would do is go to that manufacturers website and go to their support site, and find the correct driver.
Reply:If you have a cd that came along with computer, try installing the most common chipset controllers like c-media, realtek, via. If using winxp, intall the ones made for xp. If your system is based on Vista, install the drivers for Vista.

If you don't know where is that cd, then open the pc and see the south chipset, the one at right bottom. Write its number and look its controller(driver) on the internet.

If you see any electronic card, on the pci slots (the yellow slots fitted at the bottom and back of the mainboard, then install that card, not the chipset. (or you can install both). By the way, tighten the card just in case is loosen.

If it says creative labs, then write the chip number and search on their web site. The same with other brands.

Good luck

How do you tell if your sound card is crashed or your speakers are crashed?

How do you tell if they have crashed(not just by not hearing anything), like if i open up my comp, will i be able to notice if the speakers or sound card is crashed??

How do you tell if your sound card is crashed or your speakers are crashed?
Open your control panel (Start%26gt;Control panel%26gt;System%26gt;Hardware%26gt;device manager%26gt;sound, video and game controllers) and see if there any yellow !'s or red x's next to the name of your sound card. if there are your drivers are corrupt, missing or need to be updated.
Reply:I've tried everything seems all ok in the device manager there's no yellow/red x and have also tried connecting speakers to other device which also seems to be working fine, still can't figure out what the problem is before reinstalling XP had no problem at all. Reply:To know if your sound card is working problem, you could look at it's properties and see if it's working properly.....

How to connect a 4.1 surround system speakers to my 5.1 sound card?
What i did was plug everything in and change the settings of your sound card. That should do it. All the 5.1 means is that it can support upto 5.1 speakers. Also make sure everythings turned on and you've put the right wires in the right places!

Would an external surround sound card be good for my new Logitech Z-5500?

Would an external surround sound card be good for my new Logitech Z-5500.

The problem is that i can only plug in 1 cable at a time it has a green, pink, and black one and each of them work with different sets of speakers so i can only listen to either the front the back or the center set,

so i was wondering if an external sound card has enough holes for the rest of the plugs or should i buy a normal surround sound card...

if so which 1 is a cheap decent 1.

Would an external surround sound card be good for my new Logitech Z-5500?
Why are you looking for an external surround sound card? Is that because you are connecting this to a laptop? Give us more info.

The Z-5500 has 3.5mm analog plugs for surround sound, but ideally you would use a coax or optical audio connector. You can't get surround sound from a stereo source. Hence, the reason why you only have one jack.

Internal sound cards cost as low as $20 for a Creative Labs. Go to www.newegg.com and buy one.

What is the highest voltage level from my laptop sound card?

I am pretty much sure all laptops regardless of products have same specification as to the out put of their signal levels from the sound card. Any ideas what the maximum output voltage could be?

What is the highest voltage level from my laptop sound card?
Not necessarily!

Output is usually measured in watts at the speaker connections, not volts.

The Line-out "standard" is 1v peak-to-peak on most systems except those designed to drive many speakers, (like restaurant background music), which are usually either 75v or 150v to avoid "line loss" in large systems with long runs, which then use special transformers at each speaker to convert back for the speakers.

I have a toshiba satellite series laptop and i want to locate the sound card?

i want to find the sound card so i can figure what is wrong with it? anybody know where it is?

I have a toshiba satellite series laptop and i want to locate the sound card?
Your sound card is most propably a set of circuits on your motherboard and it will help you nothing if you locate it.

If you have access to USB sound cards you may try see if this one works (turn off your built-in card first in Device Manager).

Also check if sound is also bad on headphones, it may be your speakers that are broken.

Another possible solutions: reinstall drivers for your sound card;

reinstall/restore system to factory state (sometimes the system breaks so much, that this is the only solution)

Any advantage of sound card over onboard audio?

Pretty much all motherboards come with onboard audio now. Is there any difference sound quality-wise that makes a separate sound card worth the money? Especially with the nicer boards that have 5.1 and SPDIF?

Any advantage of sound card over onboard audio?
its a bit like onboard graphics v plug in graphics cards , what do you want to do?

most on graphics are ok for basic but put in even a basic agp or pci and there is a difference.

the "add on" ones will have more dedicated memory etc so the processing is faster makes for good gaming, also it takes demand from the mother board so may speed up the pc a bit.

also more options on the high end cards dolby 5.1 etc so if you want really good top end sound to perhaps run through amps etc go for it

follow the link below to see whats about
Reply:Separate audio cards are for audiophiles that think they can hear a difference. Maybe they can, but for the majority of us there is no need to spend money on a sound card.
Reply:the last two have never heard of sound blaster extrime hi fi

you can hear a difference and it will also take some strain of the cpu as its not rendering the audio.

as for onboard sound being good, yes its better but try a real card.

Or you must to turn on the sound card first?

Is it possible to re-install the sound when the sound card is off in BIOS?
no you have to enable it in your bios then put it in and windows will see it and either download the drivers or will ask you to put the disk in that came with it, if you didnt get a disk with it then windows will do all the work for you.

good luck
Reply:when sound card is disabled in bios then OS can't find that device so,without finding the device it is not possible to install drivers for ur sound card
Reply:Sounds like you're on the right track. Enter your system's BIOS and re-enable the sound card. Next boot into your operating system. If you're using Windows then it will find the sound card and automatically install the drivers (the software necessary to make the hardware work). Linux and Mac should also install drivers automatically.

Is my sound card causing my computer to crash?
It sounds like a power supply problem. It asks a lot from the power supply and it probably getting hot and crashes the system. take the side panel off the computer and feel the power supply if its hot than thats the problem. I did have that happen to me recently.

try 1st removing the sound card, if the blue screen still appears then its possible that something else is causing the problem. might be a software issue or memory issue.

Dual Sound Cards.?

Back before I format'd my comp, I ran two sound cards - The integrated one, and a SB Live 24! bit PCI slot. They worked together - One broadcaster music/websites to my speakers (The SB) the other transmitted Vent to my head-set.

After I format'd it no longer works. Whenever sound is going through both of them, the system locks up for a while, or lags A LOT.

I'm not 100% sure what could be so different between then, and now. Most people have never done it, so they say it isn't possible, but it definetly is, some how.

I read something about the IRQ's could be the same for both, and that causes it to not work. But none of the IRQ's are the same. Anyone familiar with this issue? Thanks.

Dual Sound Cards.?
Why do you feel the need to have 2 sound cards? Most people get by with just 1!!
Reply:When you formatted you probably lost the driver for the internal sound card. Or after formatting you did not re-program the PCI card.
Reply:well...check your drivers %26amp; be sure they are the right ones....

another thing is that if you have newer drivers than the ones from b4 you formatted they could be conflicting...

"Lost" sound-cards.?

My wife just got two computers from the job she just left.

They are both about one year old.

They both run XP Pro.

The company wiped them both before letting her have them.

So, both machines have vertually nothing left on them - Not even Word.

They have both misplaced their sound-cards.

She watched the guy do the wipe, and knows he didn't open the cabinets.

Do you think I should just re-install XP pro and that will get the sound-cards back?

Thank you.

I bow to your greater knowledge.

"Lost" sound-cards.?
you can use the device manager to see if the cards are properly installed and try to get xp to reinstall them. Here's how you do it. Go to "My Computer" and right click on it's icon. Choose "manage" when the box pops up look on the left at the catagories. Under the first category "system tools" at the bottom should be the device manager. If there is nothing like that listed you'll have to expand the menu by clicking on the "+" sign next to it. Click on the device manager and it will pull up everything that is installed on your computer in catagories. Find the heading "sound, video, and game controllers". expand this out by clicking on the "+" sign. See if there are any warning boxes up "yellow triangles with exclamation points in them. If there are then these devices weren't properly installed. To get windows to try and reinstall them right click and choose uninstall. After uninstalling them all, restart the computer. Windows should now detect new hardware and try to find drivers to fit.

If this doesn't solve the problem it's possible that the correct drivers aren't included with windows and you'll need to find out some things. Who made the computer and what model it is. By going to the manufacturers site you should be able to go under a support or download section and get the drivers you need. You'll have to download them and run the file. Follow the instructions that come with the installer and it should fix the problem.

There is no need to reinstall windows just to fix a soundcard issue. This could just lead you to wasting a couple of hours, and a windows registration just to find out that windows doesn't come preinstalled with that driver and you're back a square one.

Hopefully this helps.
Reply:well i would try to go into the control panel

once there click "add hardware"

then ull see a welcome window and it say put in cd blah blah, push to th next screen

itll search......

if it finds somthing install it if not click "yes. i conected it"

the top ones that have X or a ! need to be installed or fixed. try and fid one that has somthing to do with sound (audio driver, soundcard)

click on that and see
Reply:Hi,

That should not be a major problem as XP should recognise the hardware on the computer.

On the few things it does not recognise you can just download the drivers from the manufacturers site.

If you have problems regarding the make of the sound card just look in control panel, sounds and audio icon the card should be listed there.

A quick search on the net should find the drivers.

Video Cards Video Drivers Sound Cards and Sound Drivers OMFG help!!?
it's really simple. the card is a physical card. the driver is the software that drives the card. you can not download a card. it's impossible to download a physical tangible thing you can hold in your hand.

you must buy a card.

the driver you can download off the manufactures website.
Reply:Cards are the actual physical equipment that needs to be in your computer to run certain processes. All computers come with some kind of card, but graphics professionals and gamers need additional beefing up of processing power, so they buy cards for this. Ditto gamers and sound professionals.

Drivers are the software component that allows your operating system to run the cards.

Yes you can download the latest drivers from the sites of the companies that sell the cards. Documentation comes with the cards. If you don't have the documentation, and you need to know what kind of card, the information can be found in your computer... just look at your system profiles.

Drivers and updates when you need them are a free service, whether you purchased the card or not.
Reply:a graphics cards is a piece of hardware. a graphics driver is a piece of software that tells windows wat the piece of hardware is and wat it does. no u need to buy a graphics card its not software its hardware.

thats gay that he didnt do it for you. most sound cards are located in the back of your computer in your PCI slot located in the back. Can my graphics and sound cards work on a Linux operating system?

Reply:Easiest way is to look at the back of your computer. What your looking for will be a series of round colored holes that look like the kind of plug a pair of headphones would connect to.

While the computer is off you can insert headphones to see if they fit without any damage. There should be at least 3 colored holes grouped together. One for speakers, one for a microphone, and one for a line in from an outside source other than the microphone (sometimes this third hole will be for front and rear speakers and the microphone port will double as the line in). If you have colored holes grouped together then you have a sound card.

How much would it cost to get a sound card fixed?
First off, I would check to see if you just need to download a driver update for your sound card. If you need help let me know, I'll need to know the brand and model number of the computer, along with the operating system.
Reply:I can pretty much guarantee it would be cheaper to buy a new sound card. Try uninstalling the sound card in Device Manager and rebooting the computer. Windows will reinstall the driver and perhaps that will fix the problem.

Go to Device Manager: Right click on My Computer %26gt; Manage %26gt; Device Manager. On the right side, click the + next to Sound, video and game controllers, then right click on Audio device (AC'97, SoundMAX, etc) and select Uninstall. When the window pops up asking if you're sure click OK. Reboot the computer and Windows will re-install the driver.

The Klipsch 2.1 speakers plug in just like any other speakers would. The green cord goes into your soundcard.

How do I get the sound on my computer to work (I have no sound card)?

I have no sound card, and I know I have all the wires hooked up correctly, but the sound will not work. If I need a driver, which one is it, and if I don't how do I solve this problem

How do I get the sound on my computer to work (I have no sound card)?
Your motherboard more than likely has on board sound you can go to device manager (right click on "my computer" for xp or "computer" for vista, then go to manage then device manager) scroll down to sound video and game controllers expand the group and check to see if there's an error for your sound. You should be able to find the drivers either on the motherboard manufacturers website or the computer manufacturers.
Reply:You have sound card on the motherboard, you need to install driver for it in order to work and most likely it is Real tech.
Reply:If there is no sound card then there is no sound.
Reply:get a sound card teh go take ur laptop or computer to the pc shop im sure they can help you from there
Reply:If you actually have no sound card, you won't have much luck with this. You computer needs one to produce sound.

The headphone jack might work, though, if one exists.

Are SOUND CARDS worth it?

I just built a new PC from scratch. Got a crossfire MOBO and i must say the Onboard Soundcard is suppose to be some HD Quality but there are limited settings to play with and all my games and speakers don't sound right compared to my HP onboard. Would I notice a big difference if i went with a PCI sound card? i play a lot of music, movies, games. This is a pretty high end PC. But i never had to buy a sound card til now i think.

Are SOUND CARDS worth it?
Yes. You can get one from Walmart real cheap.
Reply:Yes, even a $25 Creative from newegg will be better than onboard.
Reply:Sound cards are absolutely worth it. Even though motherboards have decent sound on-board, if you're using your PC for entertainment...then it's worth the investment. I'm a fan of Creative Sound Blaster cards...check them out at: www.creative.com. Good luck to ya!

Can i use 2 sound cards at once?

useing 2 sound cards

Can i use 2 sound cards at once?
At one time I had 4 sound cards installed in a PC. If your using a MIDI Sequencing program, you should be able to. The only limits would be the slots you have available and the IRQ's (although with 2000 and above it doesn't matter much anymore).

Using more than 1 sound card is dependant on the software. So unless you have a game or just Windows, it'll only use one at a time depending on which you have set for the default sound device. Sound applications will be able to use more than one if you have more than one installed (again, like a MIDI sequencer or a digital sound editing software).
Reply:You can't, and there is no need.

The most modern FX series can by itself handle 96 sound sources. So if you have for example, two weak ones you can't use them at once, and you won't for a long time.

Sound Cards and Memory for Acer Laptop?

I have an Acer Aspire 5004WLMi Laptop. I'm a musician who wants to record from a guitar to the laptop. Will upgrading my current sound card to a better one will give me a better recording sound? My last laptop's sound card was busted when I recorded.

And I want to add memory in my laptop. Will memory increase the speed of my acer? what would you suggest? etc.

Sound Cards and Memory for Acer Laptop?
Yes memory will make it faster. Get at least 2G. I think that is all your system can support. You have a good sound card, HD capabale, just no one had written drivers for it as yet. Be sure of the type of input you feed in or you can blow the internal circuitry.

How sound cards in computer works?? 10points!!?

how sound cards in computer works?? please help ^^

How sound cards in computer works?? 10points!!?
Introduction to How Sound Cards Work:

Before the invention of the sound card, a PC could make one sound - a beep. Although the computer could change the beep's frequency and duration, it couldn't change the volume or create other sounds.

At first, the beep acted primarily as a signal or a warning. Later, developers created music for the earliest PC games using beeps of different pitches and lengths. This music was not particularly realistic -- you can hear samples from some of these soundtracks at Crossfire Designs. Fortunately, computers' sound capabilities increased greatly in the 1980s, when several manufacturers introduced add-on cards dedicated to controlling sound. Now, a computer with a sound card can do far more than just beep. It can produce 3-D audio for games or surround sound playback for DVDs. It can also capture and record sound from external sources. In this article, you'll learn how a sound card allows a computer to create and record real, high-quality sound.

Analog vs. Digital:

Sounds and computer data are fundamentally different. Sounds are analog - they are made of waves that travel through matter. People hear sounds when these waves physically vibrate their eardrums. Computers, however, communicate digitally, using electrical impulses that represent 0s and 1s. Like a graphics card, a sound card translates between a computer's digital information and the outside world's analog information.

Sound is made of waves that travel through a medium, such as air or water.

The most basic sound card is a printed circuit board that uses four components to translate analog and digital information:

* An analog-to-digital converter (ADC)

* A digital-to-analog converter (DAC)

* An ISA or PCI interface to connect the card to the motherboard

* Input and output connections for a microphone and speakers

Instead of separate ADCs and DACs, some sound cards use a coder/decoder chip, also called a CODEC, which performs both functions. In the next section, we'll explore the analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog conversions that take place on the sound card.

ADCs and DACs

Imagine using your computer to record yourself talking. First, you speak into a microphone that you have plugged into your sound card. The ADC translates the analog waves of your voice into digital data that the computer can understand. To do this, it samples, or digitizes, the sound by taking precise measurements of the wave at frequent intervals. The number of measurements per second, called the sampling rate, is measured in kHz. The faster a card's sampling rate, the more accurate its reconstructed wave is.

If you were to play your recording back through the speakers, the DAC would perform the same basic steps in reverse. With accurate measurements and a fast sampling rate, the restored analog signal can be nearly identical to the original sound wave.

Even high sampling rates, however, cause some reduction in sound quality. The physical process of moving sound through wires can also cause distortion. Manufacturers use two measurements to describe this reduction in sound quality:

* Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), expressed as a percentage

* Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR), measured in decibels

For both THD and SNR, smaller values indicate better quality. Some cards also support digital input, allowing people to store digital recordings without converting them to an analog format.

Other Sound Card Components:

In addition to the basic components needed for sound processing, many sound cards include additional hardware or input/output connections, including:

* Digital Signal Processor (DSP): Like a graphics processing unit (GPU), a DSP is a specialized microprocessor. It takes some of the workload off of the computer's CPU by performing calculations for analog and digital conversion. DSPs can process multiple sounds, or channels, simultaneously. Sound cards that do not have their own DSP use the CPU for processing.

* Memory: As with a graphics card, a sound card can use its own memory to provide faster data processing.

* Input and Output Connections: Most sound cards have, at the very minimum, connections for a microphone and speakers. Some include so many input and output connections that they have a breakout box, which often mounts in one of the drive bays, to house them. These connections include:

o Multiple speaker connections for 3-D and surround sound

o Sony/Philips Digital Interface (S/PDIF), a file transfer protocol for audio data. It uses either coaxial or optical connections for input to and output from the sound card.

o Musical Instrument Digital Interface (MIDI), used to connect synthesizers or other electronic instruments to their computers.

o FireWire and USB connections, which connect digital audio or video recorders to the sound card.

Can someone please explain about SOUND CARDS!?

I need to know how to get my Packard Bell Easynote laptop to recognise that it does actually have a sound card in it! Having reinstalled Windows altogether, I have no sound; and not being able to play music etc is beginning to bug me.

Can someone please explain about SOUND CARDS!?
are you talking about the sound card that came with it or one you bought extra? make sure the drivers are installed for it by right-clicking on my computer and going to properties. click on hardware tab, then device manager. you should see audio devices, and then under that your sound card. right-click and go to properties. it will tell you if there is a driver for it. if you have to install the drivers, they should have come with your card on a cd. if that is not the problem, then you might want to contact your laptop manufacturer.
Reply:Well you first need to find out what type of sound card it is. You would have to open up the machine or go to packard bell's website and find out.

Next you need to download drivers for the sound card. You can find them on packard bell's site or driversguide.com

Next you need to install the drivers by right click on my computer then left click on properties. Go to your device manager from tehre.

Find the sound card that is most likely conflicting right click properties on it.

Then click on update driver and point it to the place your driver was saved. Good Luck.
Reply:You are going to need to find out what sound card you have and find the drivers for it. www.driversguide.com is a good place to look. if you cant find it at Packard Bell's website, first try your manufacturer's site though
Reply:You probably lost the driver for the card during your re-install of Windows. Open Device Manager to see if Windows knows there is a card installed. Double click on the sound card icon and try reinstalling the driver.

Another option would be if you have the original s/w CD that came with the laptop, it may contain the driver you need.

If you know the mfr and model of the card, you might be able to find the driver on the web.

Don't give up! I've been through this on a couple of PCs and I understand how frustrating it can be.
Reply:Reinstall the audio driver from the Packard Bell software.

Are there any video cards that have a coxial output for a regular tv with sound?

Does anyone know of a video card with a coaxial output that would work with a regular tv and put out sound? Or of another way of doing it?

Are there any video cards that have a coxial output for a regular tv with sound?
you can do it with S Video.. normally all video cards come with s video out for connecting your PC to TV.

How do I find my computer's sound card?

No sound comes out of my pc when I switch my speakers on. Tried new speakers but Im now thinking that it might need me to buy a new sound card? Is it worth it? What am I looking for?

How do I find my computer's sound card?
.Is this the PC you're upgrading Kris? we need to know your operating system to advise you what to look for. But if you bought a new soundcard it would come with it's own drivers anyway.

if you have just upgraded your operating sys from 98 ..then chances are the soundcard is an old one anyway and maybe not recognised by windows...
Reply:It would all depend on if the card is attached to the motherboard or if the card is a seperate piece. If it is attached than it is NORMALLY on the backside of the motherboard near the pci/pci express/agp (depending on what you have) slots. It will have the name of the maker on it (like nvadia). If it is a seperate piece than you should be able to see it easily. It will placed into one of the slots and, also, have the makers name on it. If it is in the motherboard the only thing you can do is buy a new card and place it into the slots. If it is a seperate item than you can determine if it needs upgrading. You will still need to purchase and a new card and place it into the slot.
Reply:Go to control panel, Sounds and Audio Devices.

Go through each tab and make sure no 'Mute' check box is checked and insure the volume sliders are not at the bottom.

Good luck.

Oh...also...

On the Audio tab in the Default Device section. There may be more than one device listed. After you insure nothing is muted and volumes are raised, cycle through each device (typically 1 or 2) and save and then test sounds.
Reply:if you have a notebook, you're out of luck, unless you buy an external sound card.

If you have a desktop, you're looking in the back for a few headphone-sized jacks. If you open up the case and look alongside where those ports are, and there's an entire board there, that's a soundcard.

If you have integrated sound, you may not find a sound card at all. it's integrated with your motherboard.
Reply:I'm sure your sound card is fine. Go to control panel/ Hardware and sound/Manage audio devices. Make sure all the boxes are checked off and none are muted. That should do the trick.
Reply:Its not like that your sound card need setup again that all.Call services provider he/she can repair that in seconds.ok. and check virus, did you check all music setting is there no button mute.
Reply:The sound card may be connected to the motherboard or an adapter card. Follow your speaker wires. If they connect down by where the mouse, usb ports, and network port are, then the sound is likely on the motherboard. If it connects where the expansoun ports, then it is a seperate card. In either case, right click on the my computer icon and pick properties. Pick Hardware then divice manager. Look for your soundcard there. You can remove the device and restart the computer. In most cases, the drivers will reinstall when the computer is restarted. If not, you may need to re-install the driver manually. In the event the sound card is bad and it is intalled on the moterboard, you will need to go into the computer BIOS and disable the built in sound device and install an expansoun card from a computer store. don't pay much more than 10-15 bucks for one.

Good luck
Reply:It's very easy to replace the sound card.

Buy one at http://www.tigerdirect.com

Open up your computer and switch them out.

It takes like 5 minutes.
Reply:Go to Control Panel and hit the 'Sound and Audio Devices Properties' file. Go to the 'Audio' tab and find the 'Default Device' quote. That is your current sound card. You can change it.

Sound cards X 2?

is it true that you can have two sound cards installed in a p.c unlike graphic cards unless you have sli or crossfire

is it just graphic cards that this applies to,or is there other cards that only one can be installed per computer

Sound cards X 2?
Yes you can have two sound cards installed in a PC. I have done it. I've set up for a friend Sound Blaster Live for gaming and Yamaha SW1000XG for his mixing for his DJ gig and they both co-existed happily together.

The thing is you need to select which one you want to use each time through your Multimedia section in Control Panel. This means cannot use both at the same time. This is because most software programs were not written to take advantage of two sound cards.

But it can be done.
Reply:NO ITS NOT TRUE U CAN ONLY HAVE ONE SOUND CARD THEY WILL NOT B COMPATIBLE AT ALL SO DON'T TRY IT...
Reply:having never tried to install two sound cards, i would imagine they would conflict with each other. i would say no, it's not true
Reply:You should be able to use as many sound or video cards as you wish. They won't work until you get the driver settings correct, but you should be able to do (most of) that by changing the IRQ of each device.
Reply:Using a Second (or more) Sound Card with AGWPE

Recent AGWPE versions let you use unlimited additional sound cards in your computer. This lets you use one sound card for Windows programs and devices, such as a CD player, while your second sound card can be dedicated to AGWPE. In fact, you could even install a third sound card (or more!) for more packet ports. Your only limitation will be card slots and PTT signaling ports (COM, LPT or USB) in your computer.

Ideally your additional sound cards will be "plug-and-play" and Windows will automatically recognize them when you boot up after installing it. Otherwise you will need to use the Windows Control Panel option, "Add New Hardware", to tell Windows about the sound card and install the appropriate drivers. After the additional sound card is installed in Windows, AGWPE will automatically recognize all cards.

[Note: For more information about compatible sound cards see the More About AGWPE page. ]

To select the sound card you want to use for sound card packet, call up AGWPE's main menu, select Properties and then, with Port 1 highlighted, click on OK. The Properties for Port1 box will then open. Under the TNC Sub Type choice field there is an Options button. Click on the Options button to bring up the SoundCard Modem/TNC Setup window. At the bottom of this window is a Sound Card Selection dialogue box where you can select the sound card you want AGWPE to use. Click on the down arrow to the right of the box to see your choices.

How do I find out what brand of sound card I have?

I need to download a driver but I don't know how to find what brand my sound card is. Thank you

How do I find out what brand of sound card I have?
to do this, you can find basic info about the sound card by double-clicking on the speaker icon on you taskbar, and looking at the "volume mixer".

for Vista Os, you need to click 'Mixer', or you can simply just hold your mouse over the speaker icon(do not click it), and a balloon will appear showing you the name and the current volume.

To find deep information, you will need to visit the Device Manager at the control panel of the PC. this will show you all the devices you have, and their names.. etc

click on plus sign on left of sound, video and game controllers in the drop down you should be able to see the sound card with "audio" as a suffix example : Realtek AC'97 Audio

if not you will need to install the drivers using the cd or dvd the manufacturer provided you with.

In the computer it is embedded on a PCI slot... its a typical long rectangular chip with lots of ic's and connected to the back of the tower through the middle, with 3 coloured sockets coming out from the back of the tower in which your speaker cable is plugged in

How i can know there has a sound card or not in the PC without open the case?
right click on My Computer icon, choose manage, then click on device manager and then find out in the sound, multimedia is it available...
Reply:2 things you can do via software, but if the driver is not installed, it may appear that you do not have a sound card even if you do:

1) go to your device manager and look for audio devices

2) go to sound properties in control panel and see what (if any) audio device is selected

1 thing you can physically check:

the sound card plugs into the motherboard and butts up against the back of the PC, just like the video card. If you have a place to plug in the monitor, then you have a video card. Likewise, if you have a place to plug in speakers or headphones, then you have a sound card.

Lastly, it's not that hard (usually, especially on newer models) to open the case and peek inside. You would be looking for a small computer board plugged into the mother board, butting up against the back of the machine, usually near your video card (the one with the monitor plug).

Here is an example of what a sound card might look like:

Is there a sound card emulator program for a pc?

I need a sound card emulator for my computer to use a program but I dont actually need to hear it.

Is there a sound card emulator program for a pc?
You can't emulate a sound card. It's a basic piece of hardware. You either have one (and 98% of all computers do) or you don't. If you are a have not, go to a used comp parts store and pay the $3 for a used sound card and install it yourself... then try a different piece of software that lets you set whether or not it needs to use your sound card!
Reply:why would you need to emulate sound?

I just bought a new speaker system and it has surround sound but i dont have the surround card?

so the question im asking is the colors on the headphone wires are green orange black, when i look for a surround sound card [for my computer] online do they have to be the same colors or no?

I just bought a new speaker system and it has surround sound but i dont have the surround card?
Did you mean the colors on the speaker connections? Not sure where headphones came from.

The color is unimportant. Since you have only three connectors, I'm guessing that one of them is a stereo connection for the front speakers, one is a stereo connector for the surround (rear) speakers and the other one is either the subwoofer or the center channel, which goes in front of you. (The center speaker is where you hear the voices of the people on the screen.)

Check your manual when you get a card, but don't worry if the colors are different. Just get the proper jack in the proper plug.
Reply:The card has 3 outputs/inputs and you can change it from settings after you install the card into PC!!!!

How do I check for a sound card on my PC?

I bought a computer from a friend, she does not know if the computer had a sound card. I want to know if there is a way I can check if it already has one installed.

How do I check for a sound card on my PC?
Go to your control panel and it should be listed under sound devices.
Reply:Plug headpohes in and insert a CD.
Reply:Just play a sound.
Reply:look for speaker and mic outputs on the back of the pc
Reply:Every computer right now has a sound card, look on the back there sould be 3 ports pink blue and green. You connect the speakers to the green.
Reply:You can check if your computer has a sound card by doing these few steps:

-go to Windows "Start Menu"

-click on "Run"

-then type "dxdiag"

Running "dxdiag" will launch "DirectX Diagnostics Tool," which basically sums up your computer. Look at the top, where it lists each section in tabs, look for "sound," if there is something there, then there is a sound card installed. If not, your computer does not have a sound card, or the sound card has not been installed.
Reply:Look at the back of the computer, you will be looking for a small round hole about the size of a headphone jack. You may see 1,3,5 or more arranged in a row. If these are located right by the connectors for the mouse, keyboard and usb you most likely have integrated sound. If they are arranged horizontally and lower in the case by some removable brackets then you probably have a sound card.

If you mean is your computer capable of playing sounds then the answer is most likely. Look for a circle like I mentioned, it will probably be green. This is a common color used to denote a speaker out connection. Most computers built in the last 8-10 yrs have sound built-in.
Reply:look @ back of computer if ther are three little hole next to each other on top of a big yellow input, then you have a sound card,

if you want to put in speakers, plug into green little hole
Reply:Look for headphone jacks in the back of the tower. I'll almost bet money on that there are some. Then you'll have to go to the manufacturers site and download the correct drivers if they simply don't work when you plug your speakers into the green headphone jack.
Reply:Go to control panel-%26gt;sounds and multimedia

There if no device is available(all dialogs are disabled under audio tab) then it means that the drivers for the sound card are not installed.

Check manufacturer to know which driver to install(which you might be able to download from the web)

How To Have Sound Without A Sound Card?

In my school we have about 30 Pc's In one room.

There running Windows Xp Professional I think, And we're using Dell's.

At first no pc has sound, now recently some of them have it (although it is crap quality and very quite) and there are no speakers connected and i presume there are no sound cards, if it is the case, how do you run the sound though your pc speaker instead of getting a sound card?

How To Have Sound Without A Sound Card?
Every PC has a speaker by default, so if you are not using a SC you need to emmulate the SC by writing a program, I dit it some 6 years back and it worked fine.

But in your case I suppose you can only ask them for more Sound Cards :)

How do I reinstall my computer's sound card?

I have a dell laptop and it's on Windows XP. My sound has gone strange and the volume messes up sometimes and it doesn't mute. How can I reinstall my sound card?

How do I reinstall my computer's sound card?
certain applications including games can mess around with your sound settings,so the first thing you need to do is go to start%26gt;control panel%26gt;sound and multimedia%26gt;then check the volume slider, and all other options

however i think reinstalling your audio drivers in this case would be a good idea

if you still have your sound card drivers, first uninstall your old sound drivers, these may be aprt of the motherboard chipset drivers so be careful you dont uninstall anything else

most motherboard chipset driver when you uninstall them will give you a list of all the motherboard chipset drivers installed, just tick the one you wish to remove and then click next

once the computer has restarted then install the new driver, but aggain when installing the new audio driver it will come as part of a chipset driver.be careful not to reinstall any drivers a second time, just select audio to install

however if your using a dedicated seperate sound card such as a creative sounblaster then all the above wont affect you, just download the appropriate sound card drivers, remove the old drivers and install the new drivers

also check the speaker connections and plugs for damage ect

worse case scenario...the actual sound card may be damaged, the description you have given sounds like a hardware fault, the first symptoms of sound card failure is sound distortion, hissing speakers, basically a awfull audio playback

any probs let me know

good luck mate!
Reply:You don't,You just install the sound drivers.
Reply:hello just you go control pannel and you find the sound controllers then you check the volume status, and sound mute option and then go to device manager check drivers status this is for simply solve the problem

Thank you

I need to find out the make/model of my ethernet card, sound card, etc. How ?

I had to reformat my computer. Now my system lacks the drivers for my ethernet card, sound card, etc.

So I tried to find out the make/model of my ethernet card, so I can search the internet for the driver, but it doesn't say it anyone on the card itself, or in the device manager.

If I don't know the make/model of the card, how can I find that out?

I need to find out the make/model of my ethernet card, sound card, etc. How ?
Try:

Start%26gt;All program%26gt;Accessories%26gt;System Tools%26gt;System information%26gt;Components

If the information are not there you may have to open the computer and check the name %26amp; model writen on the card itself.

P.S. When you'll learn to write english, may be you'll be understood easily. Read what you wrote and see if it makes sense. We have to guess in order to understand your gibrish.

If you insult people who just extend their help to you, you're the real idiot. I pity you.
Reply:I had the exact same problem with a dell installing xp. Just use another computer to find the driver and put it on a jump drive or CD-R to install it to the one that needs it. To find the drivers you might want to look on the site of your computer brand. Just make sure you type in the model of the computer on the search bar of the site.
Reply:firstly, your pc should come with drivers cd.

you must not lose it.

secondly, get the motherboards name.

search on the internet about it.

download the drivers.

that is all.

by the way, burn them, and don't lose it.

good luck.
Reply:http://www.cpuid.com/download/cpu-z-140.... this will identify the components in your pc accurately most of the time programme called cpu-z

simply search forums and manufacturers sites for the corresponding drivers...good luck

%26gt;If you have DirectX installed on your system, it gives some Identification/Manufacture/Driver

%26gt;info on your "System", "Display Devices", "Sound Devices"---Just go to "Run" and

%26gt;type in "dxdiag" to bring up the DirectX Diagnostic Tool, then click on the "Save

%26gt;all Information" button at the bottom, which allows you to save a text doc to the

%26gt;desktop, or somewhere else, that opens in notepad...
Reply:Install this %26amp; it will show you all your devices make or model trust me i've been using it for years.

Is there an reletivly inexpensive way to amplify the the audio signal comming out of my sound card?

When i have headphones plugged into my sound card the sound come out almost as a whisper. I have the system sound at it's max. I am wondering if there is an relatively inexpensive hardware or software way to solve my problem.

Is there an reletivly inexpensive way to amplify the the audio signal comming out of my sound card?
google the words"real player alternative"find a site that you can download it from, download it,,then go into the audio properties,,find the slide bar that says"boost"slide it to where you like..beware,,this will make EVERY audio program on your pc boosted, whether your using real alternative or not,,,it doesnt even have to be open to boost things and it is LOUD!!!you may have to tweak it a bit to find where you get the best sound without distortion though.......good luck..ps this program has increased the audio output of my laptop by at least 300 percent!!!oh yeah,,be sure that ALL of your media player volumes are turned up,,some may be affecting your sound output right now....
Reply:make sure that your driver for your sound card is installed properly and also you can try to upgrade your driver...

Could the PCIe video card or the pci sound card be making the monitor not turn on?

Ok I just built my computer. i haven't been able to get the monitor to show anything. I plug it into the motherboard or the 2600 video card i bought, and it stays black screen, like it's not being recognized. Could the video cards be clashing, and the requests be the same, or maybe the sound card is doing something. Should I take the extra's i bought out and boot with motherboard alone, than add later? Thanks.

Could the PCIe video card or the pci sound card be making the monitor not turn on?
you should boot with the bare minimum initially but first, check if your cpu hsf are really plugged in, your 12v rail plugged in and you have at least 300w of good power.
Reply:if you have on board video card you should disable it 1st in bios setup , or try revove your other video card and see if you get anything on monitor then

How do I fix my Sound device ( sound card or sound control) in my computer.?

My computer somehow rebooted itself and lost everything but my windows xp. I get no sound when I try to play a cd or download something from my computer. When I play cd it says i have a problem with my sound device. Check my sound card or sound control.

How do I fix my Sound device ( sound card or sound control) in my computer.?
in control panel use system and hardware tab. next chode devices and see if all your sound device is still there. If so, the right click it and delete it. When booting again, the system will check for "new" hardware and will re-install your card. This has solved many issues with friends and collegues. Good luck

Need a new pci sound card that is not made by creative?

That has a front panel headphone jack, 5.1, and works in Windows Vista 32bit. Currently have an Audigy 2 plat ZS and creatives driver support in Vista is the bottom of the barrel for that card. According to there forums they have even disabled driver functionality to attempt get you to buy the X-Fi. Besides the on board sound, Realtec (X48-DQ6 mobo), what are my options in purchasing a new sound card?

Any one will do. Just make the icons and fonts as large as possible: right click on desktop, Properties, Settings, Advanced.

And don't forget to put the speakers volume at max.

Question about computer sound cards?

I need to get a new sound card as my Creative Labs Audigy 1 seems to be on the fritz...lately it's making a bunch of crackling sounds when playing MP3s and Games. I have been hearing about a bunch of problems though with the new X-fi card from CL and how it's making crackling sounds on a bunch of consumer's computer systems. I'm not too happy with Creative's support either....they seem to take steps backward whenever they release new drivers and they like to pass blame on to other things. The only other card I've been looking at is the M-Audio Revolution 7.1.....this card is older, and only supports up to EAX 2.0 (as CL was decided to be jerks and not license the tech to other companies past 2.0). Should I go with M-Audio or CL? Does only have EAX 2.0 make that big of a difference, especially if I don't play that many games?

Visit NewEgg.com and check the reviews that real users have left.

If you are just using it for sound, GO CHEAP. If you are using it as a part of a Sound Studio, then consider a Turtle Beach or other brand that Sound people use.
