How do I find out what sound card my PC has?

Just wondering, because I want a new set of speakers, and the manufacturer recommends a 5.1 sound card. How do I find out what sound card my PC has? I am running Windows XP.

Thanks for your help,

Tom.

How do I find out what sound card my PC has?
right click on MY Computer and click properties

goto hardware

click on device manager

look under sound and audio devices...should show you there

or you can go into sound properties in control panel..should be there too

**************************************...

btw Scruffy...that is incorrect...alot of motherboards come with 5.1 Ch now...I've seen boards with 7.1 Ch

do your research :-)
Reply:If your soundcard doesn't have the ports (at the back of your PC) for 6 different speakers, I don't like your chances.

If your soundcard is a generic one that came with the PC, it won't have 5.1. You'll have to buy one.
Reply:ComputerSpec(c) tells you advanced infomation about your system hardware.

Reply:Start %26gt; Run %26gt; type in "dxdiag" (without quotes) %26gt; press "OK" %26gt; click on the "Sound" tab at the top.

It should be listed in the "Device" group box under "Name"
