My computer has no sound and it is giving me the message that there is no sound device installed. I thought that all computers come with a sound card. Where can I go to get one installed? It is a dell computer Gx270
Where can I go to have a sound card installed in my computer?
When I searched Dell for the GX270 it brought up some incredibly old systems. Almost like a machine I haven't seen since the mid - late 90's.
If you don't have an add-in card, it is most likely a built in device. Most of the drivers I found were for Win2000 and older. In which case finding some drivers for anything newer will be a challenge.
Please provide some more info about the system. Download and run CPU-Z from http://www.cpuid.com and let us know what the processor is and the chipset.
Reply:if in the back of your pc you have a hole like green and pink the size of a stereo head phone then you have a sound card and you need to install it if you dont have does three holes the you need to purchase one and it comes with the drivers
have a grest year sweety and if you need help installing the new sound crard or the one you have get back to me
Reply:Chances are that your drivers to operate the sound are corrupt or missing.
Reply:Go to any good computer repair shop and buy the sound card, most will fit it free. If go to HOW STUFF WORKS Web sight and ask how to fit a sound card the site will show you with illustrations of how to do.
Reply:As dick said, it is most likely the absence of sound card drivers that is causing your lack of sound.
#1. Right Click My Computer and Select "Manage"
#2. Click on "Device Manager" in the left-hand list.
#3. If any of the little boxes have a "-" instead of a "+" (other than the top one) there is a problem with the device or its drivers. The little box next to "Sound, Video and Game Controllers" will most likely have a "-" and some of the sub-boxes should have Yellow Exclamation point (!) icons on them.
#4. You should be able to right click on those ones and select "Update Driver". If the driver is located on your computer, it should be able to find it automatically. If it isn't, you will need to download the driver and install it from the manufacturer's website.
Reply:could be that your sound card just needs to be reseated into the slot. i haven't seen a PC without a sound card since the early 80's
