My sound isn't working right is sounds like a out of range radio station. I don't think I have the right driver for the sound card. The computer is a acer aspire 7100. Can anyone help or tell me where to look to figure out what kind of sound card I have?
Is there anyway to find out what kind of sound card your laptop has?
I use Everest Free Edition to identify the hardware in computers. You can get it here:

Just install that and then go into the hardware profiler. It is pretty straightforward.

Reply:There are three after market programs.

You could also try
Start%26gt; Run%26gt; MSinfo32
or
Start%26gt; Run%26gt; DxDiag
Reply:Read The Friendly Manual (RTFM) for your Acer.
If the sound never worked, call Acer.
If it started to act up recently, try a set of desktop speakers to see if they sound they way they should. If not, you may have blown the speakers or deleted the drivers, OR you have malware.
Reply:Most laptops have integrated sound. The best idea would be to search the Acer website and see if they carry the sound drivers for their laptop.
You can check to see if your laptop uses integrated sound or has a dedicated sound card by going into the device manager. You can access the device manager by right clicking on My Computer and then going to "Properties"
Reply:PCI ESS Solo 1 Sound System
