How do I replace a sound card on my computer?

I tried to play a CD on my computer and I got an error msg that my sound card/device is not working? How do i replace this

How do I replace a sound card on my computer?
Buy an IDE soundcard. Many are available but i like the Soundblaster ot Yamaha one. It will plug into an IDE slot on your motherboard and dissable the old one. Install the software that comes with it any you're away.

If, however you use a notebook you would have to buy a USB soundcard that would connect to a spare USB port. INSTALL ANY SOFTWARE FIRST OR READ THE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY.
Reply:Hi,

I assume that is a desktop and not a laptop?

Have you got any sound on the computer at all?

If not then there is a problem with the sound but it may not be a hardware fault.

The first thing that I would do is to check in start, control panel, sound devices and see if it showing as installed.

Then re-install the drivers in case that is the problem.

You could have either an on-board device or a separate sound card.

If it is separate card then power off the computer, remove the side of the case, make sure you are wearing an earth strap to avoid static discharge.

Locate the sound card, remove the screw holding it in then carefully pull the sound card towards you out of the slot.

Installation is the reverse procedure.

If it an on-board device then just re-install the drivers and see if that works.

Mail me if you have any questions.
