How can I see the name of manufacturer of sound card from window 98?

No sound card driver is installed.

HCL branded computer.

And How can I know that PC has a sound card or not?

How can I see the name of manufacturer of sound card from window 98?
if you look on the back of the computer there will be an area seperate from the addon area that has you keyboard/mouse serial/parallel ports if there are sound jacks there you definetly have on-board sound. If they are on the bottom by themselves (not in the same slot as a modem or anything like that) then it probably is a sound card. If they are in the same slot as a modem or such there is still a possibility that it is onboard.

The ony way to know for sure is to open the computer and look. Once you find if you have a sound card or not you can get the make/model off the card to get the drivers. If you do not have a seperate sound card look around the motherboard and try to find the manufacturer of the motherboard along with the model number and get the driver from their website.

If you are still running Windows 98 it is time to buy a new computer Microsoft quit making updates for 95/98/98SE.

You can buy a new machine w/ a flat screen monitor most anywhere for under $500.

Just a thougth...... you may love that machine.....
Reply:Look in device manager and see if it's identified. If there's no driver and a sound card is there, it may appear under unknown devices.

One way to see if there is one installed, is to look at the back of the computer. Are there any audio jacks.. anything labeled line in or line out? Most pc's from that vintage did have sound cards though it's possible your's doesn't.

Sound could be integrated on the system board or be a separate card. If you think it should have audio, you're going to have to open the cover and have a look. Identify what expansion cards you do have and look to see what chips are on the system board. Identifying an audio chip on a system board is going to be hard if you have no idea of what you're looking at.

Reply:- Try start - cmd - msinfo32 - hardware

- go to control panel - go to audio - in the first screen next to the speaker it will tell u something like soundmax or something... thats the one...

- If not try BIOS and check if it says onboard audio, means that it has an inbuilt sound card with the motherboard

- Mostly HCL makes with onboard since it is cost effective for customers :)

BELARC ADVISOR is good... try that.. :)
